Chapter 9 - A New DawnThree Years Later.

The boardroom was loud, filled with executives discussing the new charity initiatives we were launching globally.
"Mr. Harrison, the new housing project for single mothers is fully funded," my new VP said. "What about the St. Jude's pediatric wing?"
"Double the funding," I replied, standing up and buttoning my suit. "And make sure every child gets whatever they need. Meeting adjourned."
I walked out of the building. I didn't own sports cars anymore. I drove a safe, armored SUV. I didn't go back to a quiet, empty penthouse. I went to a sprawling, warm home in the suburbs.
As I walked through the front door, a little girl with blonde hair came sprinting down the hallway.
"Uncle Mike!" Sophie yelled, throwing her arms around my legs.
She was eight now. Healthy, bright, and the center of my entire universe. I had formally adopted her after Elena passed. She was the sole heir to the Harrison fortune, but more importantly, she was the reason I actually wanted to wake up every morning.
"Hey, kiddo! How was school?" I asked, picking her up.

"Good! But I need to show you something," she said, pulling a small, dusty box from behind her back.
It was an old diary. Elena’s diary. And as I read the final entry, my entire reality shattered all over again.
