Chapter 4 - The Trojan Horse StrategyDecember 23rd passed in a blur of coded phone calls, secure digital data transfers, and silent, calculated wrath.

Corinne didn't cry. She didn't call her husband. She didn't contact the local police precinct, knowing full well that Ross had already greased the palms of the desk sergeants and local detectives with donations from his lucrative corporate partnership.

Instead, she weaponized the full weight of her military intelligence network.

By sunrise on December 24th—Christmas Eve—a federal digital forensic team had mirrored every single byte of data from Casey’s micro-SD card, cross-referenced it with cell tower pings showing Ross and Gwendolyn conspiring with local crooked attorneys, and flagged the suspicious financial transactions moving money out of Corinne’s personal accounts into an offshore shell company managed by Gwendolyn.

The trap was set. But Corinne needed a Trojan horse to deliver it right into the heart of the enemy fortress without alerting them beforehand.

At 8:00 AM on Christmas Eve, Ross Hardy sat behind the mahogany desk in his sprawling suburban study, sipping artisan coffee and reviewing the emergency court docket.

Across from him, Gwendolyn wore a smug, triumphant smirk, lounging on the velvet sofa in her late mother’s favorite cashmere sweater.

“The judge’s clerk just confirmed,” Gwendolyn purred, swirling a mimosa. “The emergency ex parte hearing is locked in for 2:00 PM today. By dinner time, Corinne will be officially designated a violent, unstable felon, Casey will be placed under our permanent guardianship, and her bank accounts will be completely frozen under federal financial investigation protocols.”

Ross smiled, leaning back in his executive chair. He looked at his reflection in the polished glass of the window, deeply admiring his own brilliance.

“It was almost too easy,” Ross chuckled. “She spent eight months playing soldier in the desert while we systematically built a bulletproof paper trail. By the time she realizes what hit her, she won't even have a lawyer willing to touch her case.”

Knock. Knock. Knock.

The sharp, heavy rapping on the front door echoed through the house, cutting off their celebratory toast.

Ross frowned, glancing at his Rolex. “That shouldn't be the courier. The papers aren't supposed to be served until noon.”

“Check the security monitor,” Gwendolyn snapped, suddenly feeling a cold spike of unease.

Ross tapped his tablet, pulling up the front porch camera feed.

There stood a man in a crisp dark suit, holding a large, official-looking leather portfolio stamped with the gold seal of the United States Federal District Court. Standing slightly behind him was a local sheriff’s deputy, looking distinctly uncomfortable and sweating despite the winter chill.

“Open the door, Mr. Hardy,” a deep, authoritative voice crackled through the intercom speaker, bypassing the doorbell chime entirely. “Federal marshals and Department of Defense Inspector General investigators. We have a federal writ of attachment and a warrant for immediate evidence preservation.”

Ross froze. His cup of coffee slipped from his fingers, shattering violently against the hardwood floor, dark liquid splattering across his Italian leather shoes.

“Federal what?” Ross whispered, his face draining of all color. “How... how did she move this fast?”
