Chapter 6 - Playing the Final CardCorinne gestured with two fingers toward the lead digital forensic agent, who immediately stepped forward, pulling a high-resolution portable projector from his tactical kit and setting it up right in the middle of the living room floor.

The blank wall above the newly hung family portrait—the one featuring Ross, Gwendolyn, and Casey in matching Christmas sweaters—lit up with a blinding white light.

A video file began to play.

“If your mother doesn't look completely unstable and dangerous by next week, Ross and I are going to lose everything...”

Gwendolyn’s voice echoed through the spacious, high-ceilinged living room, crystal clear, unforgiving, and damning.

Ross spun around, staring at the wall in absolute horror as clip after clip played: Gwendolyn mocking the child, twisting Casey’s wrist, laughing over fake text messages, and outlining the exact mechanics of the thirty-million-dollar trust fund embezzlement scheme.

The audio logs didn't stop at the nursery. The forensic team had recovered deleted cloud backups showing Ross transferring millions of dollars from Corinne’s private military deployment salary accounts into offshore crypto wallets controlled jointly by him and Gwendolyn.

“No,” Gwendolyn shrieked, lunging forward toward the projector like a cornered animal. “That’s deep-fake! That’s manipulated military propaganda! You can’t use that in a family court—!”

Two federal marshals grabbed Gwendolyn by both arms, snapping steel handcuffs around her wrists with a sharp, metallic click that echoed like a gunshot in the silent room.

“You have the right to remain silent,” the marshal recited flatly. “Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of federal law.”

Ross dropped to his knees, his hands trembling as he looked up at his wife. The polished, arrogant corporate attorney was gone, replaced by a pathetic, sweating coward begging for mercy.

“Corinne... please,” Ross whimpered, reaching out to grab the hem of her military trousers. “We can talk about this. Think of our marriage! Think of the years we spent together! Gwendolyn manipulated me—she threatened to ruin my law career if I didn't help her secure the trust fund—!”

Corinne looked down at him with an expression of profound, chilling disgust. She didn't flinch. She didn't yell. She simply looked at him the way a surgeon looks at a cancerous tumor that finally needs to be excised.

“You didn't just try to steal my money, Ross,” Corinne said softly, her voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. “You broke my daughter’s wrist. You taught her to be terrified of her own home. You turned Christmas into a trap.”

She pulled a folded document from her breast pocket and dropped it right into Ross’s trembling, open hands.

“What... what is this?” Ross sobbed, tears streaming down his face.

“Those aren't divorce papers,” Corinne replied evenly. “That’s a federal indictment for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, perjury, tampering with federal witnesses, and child abuse. And the custody petition? It’s been amended. You won't just lose parental rights—you’re losing your freedom.”
