CHAPTER 1 – The Boy at the Palace Gates

The flash of cameras lit up the marble entrance of Blackwood Palace as the city's wealthiest guests arrived one after another.
Tonight wasn't just another wedding.
It was the wedding of Evelyn Sterling, the billionaire heiress everyone envied.
Designer gowns sparkled beneath crystal chandeliers. Luxury cars stretched for blocks. Reporters fought for the perfect photo.
Inside, the orchestra had already begun playing.
Outside...
A barefoot little boy stood silently on the red carpet.
His oversized, torn sweater barely covered his thin body. Dirt covered his face, but his blue eyes never left the palace doors.
Security immediately rushed toward him.
"Move him."
"This isn't a shelter."
"Get that kid away before the bride sees him."
One guard grabbed the boy's shoulder.
But instead of crying...
The boy quietly held up a small piece of bread.
"I'm not hungry anymore," he whispered.
"I brought this for her."
Everyone laughed.
"For the bride?" one guest mocked.
"Kid, she wears diamonds worth more than your entire life."
The laughter echoed across the entrance.
Yet the boy refused to leave.
He waited.
Patiently.
As if he had spent years preparing for this exact moment.
Just then...
The palace doors opened.
Evelyn appeared in a breathtaking white gown, surrounded by photographers and bridesmaids.
She looked happier than she'd ever been.
Until she noticed the small boy.
For reasons she couldn't explain...
She stopped walking.
Something about his eyes felt strangely familiar.
Ignoring the protests of her wedding planner, Evelyn slowly walked toward him.
The crowd fell silent.
"What do you want?" she asked softly.
The boy looked down at the piece of bread still clutched in his hands.
"My mom said..."
"...if I ever found you..."
"...I should give you this."
Confused, Evelyn smiled gently.
"I think you've mistaken me for someone else."
The boy shook his head.
"No."
"I've been looking for you for three years."
Then he reached into the torn lining of his jacket.
Not for money.
Not for food.
But for a tiny folded note, yellowed with age.
"My mom said..."
"...don't let anyone else read it."
"...only the bride."
Curious, Evelyn unfolded the paper.
At first...
She smiled politely.
Then...
The smile disappeared.
Her hands began shaking uncontrollably.
The color drained from her face.
A single tear rolled down her cheek.
Everyone watched in stunned silence.
The note contained only one sentence.
"The boy standing before you is the only person who knows why your sister really disappeared the night you inherited everything."
Evelyn slowly raised her trembling eyes toward the frightened child.
And for the first time in years...
She realized her perfect life...
May you like
Had been built on a lie.
To be continued...
