CHAPTER 2 – The Sister Who Was Supposed to Be Dead

Evelyn’s fingers crushed the note as the wedding music died behind her.

“Who gave this to you?” she whispered.

The boy’s lips trembled.

“My mother… before she died.”

A cold silence fell over the palace steps.

Evelyn’s groom, Richard, rushed forward and grabbed her arm.

“Evelyn, this is nonsense. He’s a street kid looking for money.”

But the boy stared at Richard and suddenly stepped back.

His face went pale.

“That’s him,” he whispered.

Evelyn froze.

“What did you say?”

The boy pointed with a shaking finger.

“That’s the man my mother was hiding from.”

Richard’s perfect smile cracked.

Guests began murmuring.

Reporters lifted their cameras.

Evelyn turned slowly toward the man she was about to marry.

“Richard… do you know this child?”

Richard laughed too loudly.

“Of course not. Look at him.”

But the boy pulled something else from his jacket.

A tiny silver necklace.

Evelyn gasped.

It belonged to her missing sister, Clara.

The sister who had vanished seven years ago.

The sister everyone said had run away out of jealousy.

The sister whose disappearance made Evelyn inherit the entire Sterling empire.

Evelyn’s knees nearly gave out.

“Where did you get that?”

The boy’s eyes filled with tears.

“My mother wore it every day.”

Then he said the words that shattered the wedding.

“Her name was Clara.”

A bridesmaid screamed.

The crowd erupted.

Evelyn stared at the boy as if the world had stopped breathing.

Clara had not disappeared.

Clara had survived.

And this child…

This starving, barefoot boy…

Was her nephew.

Richard suddenly grabbed the boy’s arm.

“Security! Get him out!”

But Evelyn’s voice cut through the chaos.

“Touch him again, and I’ll destroy you.”

Richard froze.

For the first time, fear crossed his face.

Evelyn bent down in front of the boy.

“What’s your name?”

“Leo,” he whispered.

She gently touched his cheek.

“Leo… what did your mother tell you about Richard?”

The boy looked around, terrified.

Then he leaned close and whispered one sentence into Evelyn’s ear.

Her eyes widened.

Because Clara’s last secret was worse than betrayal.

It was murder.

And the man standing at the altar…

Had not come to marry Evelyn.

May you like

He had come to finish what he started.

To be continued...
