CHAPTER 3 – The Groom's Deadly Secret

The whisper echoed in Evelyn's mind long after Leo pulled away.

"My mom said Richard pushed her off the bridge."

For a heartbeat...

The world stopped.

The orchestra fell silent.

The guests stared, confused by the bride's pale face.

Richard forced another smile and reached for Evelyn's hand.

"Sweetheart... he's lying."

But Evelyn stepped away.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

The man she had trusted for three years suddenly looked like a complete stranger.

"How did you know my sister?" she asked.

Richard laughed nervously.

"I barely remember her."

"You just said you didn't know anything about this."

His smile disappeared.

The crowd noticed.

Phones quietly rose into the air, recording every second.

Leo clutched Evelyn's dress.

"My mom told me never to trust the man with the silver watch."

Richard instinctively covered his wrist.

He was wearing the exact silver watch Clara had described years ago in one of her old diary entries.

Only Evelyn knew about that diary.

No one else.

Unless...

Richard had read it.

Richard's voice hardened.

"This wedding is over. Remove the boy."

Four security guards stepped forward.

But before they could touch Leo, dozens of black SUVs roared through the palace gates.

The tires screeched across the marble driveway.

Every guest turned.

The doors opened.

Men in dark suits stepped out, followed by an elderly woman in a wheelchair.

Gasps spread through the crowd.

It was Margaret Hale.

The retired detective who had investigated Clara Sterling's disappearance seven years earlier.

Everyone believed she had retired after claiming there was "not enough evidence."

Margaret looked straight at Richard.

"You've been hiding long enough."

Richard's face turned ghost white.

"What are you doing here?"

Margaret raised an old, weathered envelope.

"We finally found the evidence your money couldn't destroy."

She handed it to Evelyn.

Inside were photographs.

One showed Clara standing on an old bridge the night she disappeared.

Another showed Richard arguing violently with her.

The final photograph froze everyone's blood.

It showed Clara falling over the railing...

While Richard's hands were still reaching toward her.

The guests gasped in horror.

"No..." Richard muttered.

"That's impossible."

Margaret wasn't finished.

"We also recovered a hard drive from a damaged security camera."

She nodded toward one of her investigators.

A giant LED screen behind the wedding stage suddenly flickered to life.

The footage began playing.

Everyone watched in stunned silence.

Richard and Clara stood alone on the bridge.

They argued.

Clara turned away.

Richard looked around to make sure no one was watching...

Then shoved her with both hands.

Screams erupted across the palace.

Women covered their mouths.

Men cursed in disbelief.

The groom who had been smiling only minutes earlier had just been exposed as a murderer—in front of thousands watching the livestream.

Richard suddenly laughed.

A cold...

Terrifying laugh.

"You still don't understand," he said.

"You think Clara was the only one."

He slowly reached into his tuxedo jacket.

Guests screamed and scattered, believing he had a weapon.

Instead...

He pulled out a folded document.

It was Evelyn's will.

Signed.

Notarized.

Prepared only three days earlier.

"If we married today," Richard said with a twisted grin, "everything would become mine the moment you died."

Evelyn felt the blood drain from her face.

This wedding had never been about love.

It had always been the final step in a plan that began seven years ago—with Clara's murder.

But before anyone could react...

Leo tugged gently on Evelyn's hand.

"Aunt Evelyn..."

"My mom told me there's one more secret."

"She said..."

"...Richard didn't act alone."

The entire crowd turned toward the bride's family.

Because someone standing among them...

May you like

Had helped destroy Clara's life.
