CHAPTER 3 — The Basement No Father Was Ever Meant to Find

I couldn't breathe.

I replayed the video five times.

Every second made less sense than the last.

Why would my wife stage my daughter's suffering?

Who was the man behind the camera?

And why did he call Rebecca "Doctor"?

I decided not to confront her.

Not yet.

Instead, I searched the house while they were away.

Hours passed.

Nothing.

Until I noticed something strange inside the basement.

One shelf looked newer than the others.

When I pulled it...

The entire wall moved.

A hidden room.

Cold air rushed out.

Inside were filing cabinets.

Medical equipment.

Cameras.

Hard drives.

And dozens of folders.

Each folder had a teenager's name.

Some had photographs.

Some had psychological evaluations.

Some had the word "COMPLIANT" stamped across the front in red ink.

My hands trembled as I searched for Josephine's file.

I found it.

Subject 18.

Observation Period: 427 Days.

Father: Emotionally absent.

Attachment Level: High.

Recommended Pressure Point: Threats against father.

Outcome Prediction: Submission probability 96%.

I dropped the file.

Someone had studied my daughter like a laboratory animal.

Then I noticed another folder.

My name.

Elias Harris.

I opened it.

Every detail of my life was inside.

My work schedule.

My bank account.

My driving routes.

Even conversations I had only ever spoken inside my own home.

Someone had been listening.

For years.

Suddenly, I heard footsteps upstairs.

Rebecca was home.

I killed the flashlight and hid inside the secret room.

The bookshelf slid open.

Rebecca entered with the same mysterious man from the video.

He removed his glasses.

For the first time, I saw his face clearly.

My entire body went numb.

I knew him.

He wasn't a stranger.

He was my older brother, Nathan...

The brother I had buried fifteen years ago after everyone said he died in a car crash.

He smiled at Rebecca.

"Elias is getting curious."

Rebecca folded her arms.

"He'll find out eventually."

Nathan laughed softly.

"Good."

"It's time he learns why Josephine was never really his daughter."

The room spun.

Everything I believed about my family shattered in one sentence.

The nightmare wasn't just beginning.

May you like

It had started long before my daughter was born.

👉 Continue in Chapter 4... The DNA test reveals a truth so devastating that it forces Elias to question every memory of his marriage—and uncovers a conspiracy that has been hidden for nearly two decades.
