Chapter 3 - The Airport TrapThe tires hit the tarmac with a loud screech, shaking the entire cabin. The moment the seatbelt sign flickered off, the plane descended into the usual chaos of passengers rushing to stand up and retrieve their bags.

I moved fast. I grabbed my trench coat and swung my carry-on bag over my shoulder, keeping my eyes fixed on the exit. But Julian Vance was faster.
Because he was seated right behind me, he managed to slide into the aisle, blocking my exit path with his wide shoulders. He looked down at me with a triumphant, sinister grin.
"After you, 'counselor,'" he mocked, making a grand gesture with his arm. "Let's go see who's waiting for us at baggage claim."
I ignored him and walked briskly down the jetbridge, my heels clicking sharply against the floor. As I stepped into the brightly lit terminal, I scanned the crowd for my parents. My heart swelled when I saw them standing near the exit—my father, looking worn out and exhausted with deep grey circles under his eyes, and my mother, wringing her hands anxiously.
"Mom! Dad!" I called out, quickening my pace.
They looked up, their faces instantly illuminating with joy. "Darling!" my mother gasped, opening her arms to embrace me.
We hugged tightly, but before my father could even say a word, a loud, obnoxious voice shattered the reunion.
"Well, well, well. Look who we have here."
Julian Vance strolled up, flanked by two towering men in black suits who had clearly been waiting for him at the arrival gate. His security detail. Julian was holding his phone out, recording us, a twisted smile plastered across his face.
My father’s expression instantly turned from joy to pure horror. "Julian Vance... What are you doing here? Why are you following my daughter?"
Julian stopped dead in his tracks. His eyes darted from my father to me, and then back to my father. The realization hit him like a physical blow. The color drained from his smug face for a split second before a sick, twisted laughter erupted from his chest.
"No way..." Julian wheezed, clapping his hands together. "No freaking way! This is your daughter? The hothead from seat 14A is Arthur Miller’s precious little girl?!"
"Stay away from her, Vance!" my dad snapped, stepping firmly in front of my mother and me. "Our business disputes are between us and your father. Leave my daughter out of this!"
"Oh, it's not a business dispute anymore, Arthur," Julian sneered, stepping right into my father’s personal space while his two bodyguards stepped up to intimidate us. "Your little angel here committed a felony at thirty thousand feet. She threw scalding liquid and chemical agents on my bare skin!"
He lifted his pant leg, showing the red, irritated skin on his foot to his bodyguards and the gathering crowd of onlookers.
"That's assault causing bodily harm," Julian spat, pointing at me. "I’ve already contacted the airport police. They're on their way right now. She’s getting arrested the second she steps out of this terminal. And as for your company, Miller? The acquisition meeting is in two hours. You sign over seventy percent of your shares to the Vance Group for pennies on the dollar, or I push these criminal charges to the absolute maximum and ruin your daughter’s life before her law career even starts."
My mother let out a terrified gasp, clutching my arm tightly. "Oh my god... Ellen, is this true?"
My father looked broken. The pressure of losing his life's work combined with the sudden threat to my freedom was too much. His hands began to shake violently. "Julian, please... She didn't know who you were. Don't do this to her. I'll... I'll consider your contract terms. Just leave my daughter alone."
"Dad, NO!" I said firmly, taking a step forward and looking my father straight in the eyes. "Do not give him an inch. Do not sign anything."
"Shut up, girl!" Julian barked, his eyes blazing with arrogance. "You don't have a say here! You're a criminal!"
Right on cue, two armed airport police officers pushed through the crowd, heading straight toward our group.
"Is there a problem here?" the lead officer asked, looking between Julian and my family.
Julian immediately changed his persona, turning into the picture of an innocent, aggrieved victim. "Officer! Thank god you're here. This woman assaulted me on flight 402. I have severe burns on my foot, and I want her arrested and charged immediately!"
The officer turned to me, his hand resting casually on his belt. "Ma'am, is this true? I need you to step forward and show me some ID."
My mother began to cry softly, and my dad looked like he was about to collapse from a heart attack. Julian stood behind the officers, mouthing the words: "You're finished."
I took a deep breath, reached into my purse, and pulled out my official legal credential badge alongside my state bar identification card. I held it right up to the police officer's face.
"Officer," I said, my voice dropping into the authoritative, ice-cold tone I used in high-stakes courtrooms. "My name is Ellen Miller. I am a senior corporate litigator specializing in extortion and harassment cases. Before you execute an unlawful arrest based on the word of a known corporate predator, I suggest you ask Mr. Vance why he omitted the fact that he exposed his bare, contaminated body parts in my designated seating area, verbally threatened my safety, and refused to comply with FAA safety regulations."
The officer blinked, thrown off by my total lack of panic and my legal credentials.
"That doesn't matter!" Julian yelled, losing his composure. "She poured hot coffee on me!"

"Actually, Mr. Vance," I smiled, pulling out my phone, "what matters is what the aircraft's security logs and surrounding witnesses saw. And more importantly... what my phone’s audio recorder captured during the entire last hour of that flight."
Julian's face went completely ghostly white.
