Chapter 7 - The Final TrapAs the federal agents dragged Arthur and Julian Vance away in handcuffs through the crowded lobby of their own headquarters, news cameras and reporters—whom I had discreetly tipped off an hour prior—were already waiting outside the building.

Flashbulbs blinded the corridor as the disgraced billionaire and his arrogant son were shoved into the back of police cruisers. The headlines were already going viral across the internet:

"VANCE GROUP EMPIRE COLLAPSES: HEIR ARRESTED IN $14M EMBEZZLEMENT SCANDAL AFTER MID-FLIGHT ALTERCATION!"

My father and I walked out of the building into the cool evening air. My dad looked up at the sky, taking a deep, clean breath for the first time in over a year. He wiped a tear from his eye and wrapped his arm around my shoulders.

"Ellen," my father said, his voice trembling with pride and emotion. "I... I don't even know what to say. You saved us. You saved everything we built."

"We saved each other, Dad," I smiled, leaning into his shoulder. "Now, let's go home. Mom is waiting, and I haven't had a proper home-cooked meal in almost a year."

We drove back to my childhood home, a beautiful, sprawling farmhouse surrounded by rolling green agricultural fields. As we pulled into the driveway, my mother ran out onto the front porch, wrapping both of us in a massive, tearful embrace.

That night, for the first time in months, our family sat around the dinner table without the dark shadow of bankruptcy or corporate destruction hanging over us. We laughed, we celebrated, and we toasted to the future.

By midnight, the news of the Vance family's arrest had completely dominated national media. Social media was exploded with clips from the airplane—passengers had uploaded videos of Julian's childish behavior, his filthy foot on my armrest, and his violent outburst when the hot coffee hit his toes.

The internet dubbed him "The Airline Entitled Brat," and the public backlash was absolute. The Vance Group's stock plummeted by eighty percent in a single night.

At 1:00 AM, as I was sitting in my old childhood bedroom enjoying the peace and quiet, my phone buzzed with a notification. It was an encrypted private message sent to my legal email from an unknown burner account.

I opened it.

Attached was an audio file and a short text message:

“You think you won, Ellen Miller? You think putting my dad and me in handcuffs ends this? Check the attachment. If you don’t drop the federal charges and destroy that signed distribution contract by tomorrow morning, this goes live to every major news outlet in the country.”

My heart skipped a beat. I downloaded the audio file and clicked play.

A voice came through my phone speakers—a voice from ten years ago. A secret from my past that I thought had been buried forever. A mistake from my wild college days that could instantly destroy my legal license and put me in prison right alongside the Vances.

Julian Vance hadn't used all his cards in the boardroom. He had kept one final, deadly nuclear option in reserve.
