Chapter 7 - Shadows on the Bridge

The armored convoy tore through the rain-slicked streets of Brooklyn, its heavy tires throwing up sheets of water against the concrete barriers of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
Inside the lead vehicle, Aleandro sat in absolute silence, staring out the bulletproof window at the glittering lights of the Manhattan skyline. Isabella sat across from him, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. The tension between them was thick enough to cut with a knife—a volatile mix of unresolved betrayal, shared survival, and a dangerous, undeniable attraction that refused to die.
"You really think someone else is pulling the strings?" Isabella broke the silence, her voice soft. "My father and Marcus... they seemed so certain they had total control."
"Greedy men are never at the top," Aleandro replied without turning his head. "They are funded by ghosts. And tonight, we’re going to smoke the ghost out."
His phone buzzed. It was an encrypted satellite ping from his intelligence chief in Geneva.
Aleandro opened the file. A single bank account number, tied to an anonymous shell corporation registered in Zurich, had just received a twenty-million-dollar wire transfer from the exact IP address associated with the second bug found in his home—not in the study, but in the nursery upstairs.
Aleandro’s heart stopped. A cold wave of absolute terror washed over him—a terror he had never felt in all his years of running the syndicate.
The nursery.
"Driver," Aleandro barked, his voice rising in a rare display of panic. "Cut the headlights. Take the 4th Street off-ramp toward the old warehouse district. Now!"
"Sir, that's a dead end—"
May you like
"Do it!" Aleandro roared, drawing his weapon.
The convoy swerved violently, tires screeching against the wet asphalt as it veered off the expressway, plunging into the dark, abandoned industrial zone near the waterfront.
