Chapter 4 - THE EVICTION AND THE DOUBLE LIFE“Pack Your Trash in Garbage Bags—Because That’s Where You Belong.”"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?!" Margaret shrieked, her voice echoing down the manicured street as neighbors leaned out of their windows to watch. "Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am?!"

"I know exactly who you are," Deputy Sheriff Miller replied coldly, snapping steel handcuffs around Margaret's wrinkled wrists. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."

Ryan stood paralyzed on the porch, his face completely drained of color. "Officer! Officer, wait! This is a misunderstanding! This is my house!"

"Actually, sir, it’s not," Sarah Hastings stepped out from behind the police cruiser, holding a stack of certified court orders. "This property is registered solely to Elena Vance. Due to pending criminal charges regarding fraudulent financial conversions, a judge has issued an immediate temporary restraining order and eviction notice against you both."

"You can't kick me out!" Ryan roared, taking a step toward Sarah. "I'm her husband!"

"Not for long," Sarah replied smoothly. "You have fifteen minutes to gather your personal clothing. Anything purchased using Elena’s funds is currently frozen under court audit. If you touch so much as a laptop or a piece of artwork, you will be arrested for asset tampering."

Two large movers immediately began carrying furniture out of the house and loading it into storage containers. The locksmith was already busy changing the deadbolts on the front door.

Ryan ran into the house, desperately searching for his secret safe hidden in the master closet. When he opened it, his heart stopped.

It was completely empty.

In its place was a single piece of paper with my handwriting:

> "Did you really think I wouldn't check the safe behind the painting? The jewelry, the cash, and the offshore account tokens are now in police custody. Happy packing."

Ryan collapsed to his knees, punching the closet floor in rage.

Out on the street, Margaret was being pushed into the back of a police cruiser. Neighbors were filming everything on their phones. The suburban elite who Margaret had tried so hard to impress with her fake wealth were now watching her get hauled off like a common thief.

Ryan stumbled out onto the lawn carrying nothing but a single black trash bag filled with his clothes. His luxury car was gone. His credit cards were dead. His mother was in jail. His bank balance was zero.

He pulled out his phone and frantically dialed the one person he thought he had left—his secret lover, Victoria, a high-end personal trainer he had been showering with gifts using my money.

"Victoria! Thank god you picked up," Ryan sobbed into the phone. "I need you to pick me up. There's been a disaster. Elena went crazy—"

"Ryan?" Victoria’s voice came through cold and distant. "Don't ever call this number again."

"What?! Victoria, wait!"

"Two federal agents just came to my apartment and seized the Cartier watch and the BMW you bought me," Victoria spat. "They told me you were paying for everything with stolen trust funds and that I could be named as a co-conspirator. Lose my number, you broke loser."

Click.

The line went dead.

Ryan dropped his phone onto the grass. The sun was setting, casting long, dark shadows across the driveway. The house was locked. The lights were out.

He was completely, utterly alone.

HOOK FOR CHAP 5: Just as Ryan sat on the curb weeping, his phone lit up with an incoming text from an encrypted account containing a single audio file and a caption that read: "Listen to what your mother confessed in the interrogation room ten minutes ago. She didn't just steal from Elena... she did something to your father twenty years ago."
