Chapter 7 - HEALING OLD WOUNDS

The private penthouse suite at the Ritz-Carlton was quiet.

The soft glow of the fireplace cast warm shadows across the living room. On the large leather sofa, the three boys were fast asleep, exhausted from the chaos of the day. Leo was curled up under a plush wool blanket, Ethan was resting his head on a pillow, and Lucas was snoring softly, clutching a velvet teddy bear.

Blake sat on the floor beside the couch, his back pressed against the leather frame, resting his chin on his knee, just watching them sleep. He hadn't blinked in nearly an hour, terrified that if he closed his eyes, he would wake up and find out it was all a dream.

Emma walked out of the adjoining kitchen, carrying two mugs of steaming tea. She sat down on the floor beside him, handing him one of the cups.

"They're deep sleepers," Emma whispered softly, looking at her sons. "Once they fall out, not even thunder can wake them."

"They're beautiful, Emma," Blake said, his voice thick with raw emotion. "They're absolute miracles. And you... you did an incredible job raising them. They're strong, smart, and protective of you."

"It wasn't easy," Emma admitted, staring into her mug. "When I arrived in Zurich, I had three hundred dollars in my bank account. Morning sickness hit me so hard I could barely stand. There were nights I sat in a tiny apartment, crying until my eyes were swollen, wondering how I was going to buy diapers for three babies."

Blake closed his eyes, a sharp, physical pain striking his chest. "Stop... please, Emma. You're killing me."

"You need to hear it, Blake," Emma said gently, but firmly. "You need to understand what your lack of trust cost us. I didn't hide them from you out of revenge. I hid them because I was terrified of you. You were so powerful, so ruthless when you were angry. I was afraid that if you found out I was pregnant, you would use your lawyers to take them away from me, claiming I was an unfit, unfaithful mother."

"I would have never—" Blake started, but he stopped himself. He remembered his own rage five years ago. He remembered how cold he had been. She was right. Back then, in his dark, arrogant state, he might have tried to break her.

"You're right," Blake confessed, bowing his head in shame. "I was a monster back then. Wealth and power made me think I was invincible, that everyone around me was trying to take something from me. I lost my humanity."

He turned to look at her, his dark eyes filled with absolute sincerity.

"I don't expect you to forgive me, Emma," Blake said softly. "I don't expect you to take me back as a husband. But please... let me be a father to them. Let me fund their education, let me buy them a home, let me be there when they get sick, when they graduate, when they fall in love. Don't erase me from their lives."

Emma looked into his eyes, searching his soul for any trace of the arrogant billionaire she had confronted at the airport. All she saw was a broken man, desperate to love his children.

"They need a father, Blake," Emma said quietly. "And despite everything... they deserve to know who you really are. Not the billionaire on magazine covers. The man sitting on this floor."

A tear slipped down Blake's cheek. He reached out, his fingers lightly brushing against hers. "Thank you, Emma. Thank you."

The quiet moment was interrupted by the soft chiming of Emma's phone. She picked it up from the coffee table and looked at the screen.

It was a priority notification from her scientific board at Aether Technologies, flagged with an urgent security alert.

Emma opened the file, her brow furrowing in confusion.

"What is it?" Blake asked, sensing her sudden shift in energy.

Emma’s face went completely pale. The mug of tea in her hand began to tremble.

"This... this makes no sense," she whispered, her eyes scanning the encrypted data stream on her screen.

"Emma, talk to me. What’s wrong?"

Emma turned the phone toward him. "The proprietary clean-energy patents I built—the ones that power Aether Technologies—were just accessed from an IP address inside Harrington Enterprises' server grid ten minutes ago."

Blake froze. "That's impossible. Arthur is in police custody. His access codes were completely revoked an hour ago!"

"It wasn't Arthur," Emma said, her voice dropping into a horrified whisper. "The encryption key used to bypass my firewalls didn't belong to Arthur..."

May you like

She looked up at Blake, her eyes wide with shock.

"...it belonged to Julian Vance."
