Chapter 18 - The ReconstructionThe sun rose over the skyline, painting the glass towers of the financial district in brilliant shades of gold and amber.

The Costa Tower penthouse had already been repaired—broken glass replaced, walls repainted, and the debris cleared away as if nothing had ever happened. In the grand ballroom downstairs, the catering staff was busy resetting the tables for an evening gala that would host every surviving power broker in the tristate area.

Edmund stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, adjusting the cuffs of his freshly pressed shirt, watching the city wake up beneath him.

Vivien walked out of the dressing room, wearing a sweeping evening gown of deep crimson silk that caught the morning light like spilled wine.

"The federal asset forfeiture office confirmed the transfer," Vivien said, checking her tablet as she crossed the room. "Wu's shipping lines have been officially reallocated under the Costa Holdings umbrella. We now control eighty percent of the Atlantic freight corridor."

Edmund turned from the window, his pale eyes tracking her movement across the polished floor.

"And the remaining twenty percent?"

"Owned by us through dummy corporations in Zurich," she replied with a sharp, triumphant smirk. "Nobody can touch us, Edmund. Not the local boards, not the Chicago Outfit, and certainly not the Triad."

Edmund walked over, stopping just inches from her. He reached out, his fingers gently tracing the sharp line of her collarbone before resting at the small of her back, pulling her flush against his chest.

"You know, when your father traded you to me for poker debts, I thought I was getting a liability," Edmund murmured, his voice low and warm.

"And instead, you got a hostile takeover," Vivien whispered, her hands resting on his shoulders, her fingers tangling in the fabric of his lapel.

"The best investment I ever made," Edmund admitted, leaning down to press his lips softly against hers.

There was no tension left in the room—only the raw, undeniable power of two people who had carved an empire out of blood, debt, and survival.
