Chapter 19 - The New ThroneThe evening gala was packed to capacity.

Politicians, bankers, rival capos, and international delegates filled the grand ballroom of the Costa Tower, sipping champagne and speaking in hushed, reverent tones. No one dared mention the sniper bullet from a week ago. No one whispered about the warehouse fires or the federal raids.

Tonight, everyone in the room knew exactly who held the reins of power.

Edmund and Vivien descended the grand marble staircase together. The murmurs in the room died away instantly, replaced by absolute silence as every eye turned toward them.

Edmund wore his signature black tuxedo, carved from the finest wool, his presence commanding and absolute. Beside him, Vivien moved with the poise of a queen who knew every secret the city tried to hide.

They walked out onto the center of the polished dance floor just as the string quartet began to play a slow, elegant waltz.

Edmund placed his hand at her waist. Vivien rested her hand on his shoulder.

They began to move in perfect synchronization, gliding past the politicians, past the rival bosses, and past the place where their journey had truly begun.

"To the empire," Edmund murmured, spinning her gracefully beneath the glittering crystal chandelier.

"To the audit," Vivien corrected with a sharp, brilliant smile, her dark eyes locking onto his.

As the final notes of the waltz swelled through the grand ballroom, the applause erupted—loud, respectful, and absolute.
