Chapter 10 - The Last DanceThree days later, the rain had cleared, leaving the city washed in a crisp, autumn brilliance that sparkled off the glass towers of the financial district.

Inside the private ballroom of the Costa penthouse, the string quartet played once more—not for five hundred terrified guests, politicians, and snitches, but in an empty room bathed in the golden light of sunset.

Edmund stood in the center of the polished mahogany floor, his black tuxedo immaculate, his hand extended toward his bride.

Vivien wore a dress of midnight-blue silk that clung to her curves like liquid shadow, the diamond necklace sparkling against her throat catching the dying light of the sun.

She placed her hand in his.

He pulled her close, his arm wrapping firmly around her waist, guiding her through the slow, measured steps of a waltz that had no ending.

"The Chicago board dissolved this morning," Edmund murmured, resting his chin against her hair. "Maroni retired to an undisclosed federal prison cell. And the South Harbor docks are officially under Costa management."

"I know," Vivien replied, resting her cheek against his shoulder, her eyes closed as she listened to the steady, rhythmic beat of his heart. "I checked the portfolio before breakfast."

Edmund let out a low, dark chuckle, his grip tightening around her waist as he spun her gracefully beneath the crystal chandelier.

"You're a ruthless auditor, Mrs. Costa."

"You bought me to save your empire, Edmund," she whispered, looking up into his pale, unblinking eyes with a fierce, unbreakable smile. "You just didn't realize... I intended to own it."

And as the final notes of the violin faded into the quiet evening air, there was no longer any doubt about who held the ledger, who pulled the strings, and who truly owned whom.
