Chapter 7 - THE MIDNIGHT AUDIT IN THE BOARDROOMCatchy Title: THE NEW CEO TAKES OVER: SHE UNLOCKS THE VAULT THAT WILL RUIN HALF OF EUROPE!

The boardroom of Vance Global Holdings—now officially renamed Bernstorff-Vance International—was bathed in the cold, efficient glow of midnight digital displays.

At the head of the massive mahogany conference table sat Eleanor, her white silk trench coat draped over the back of her leather chair, wearing a sharp, charcoal-gray executive suit. To her right stood Clara, her traditional housekeeping dress replaced by a high-end designer blazer, holding a thick leather-bound ledger. To her left, curled up on a custom velvet dog bed in the corner of the boardroom, lay the massive Rottweiler, its heavy gold-toned chain collar resting quietly on the carpet.

The heavy glass doors swung open, and the lead federal investigator, Agent Vance—no relation—stepped inside, slamming a heavy manila folder down onto the polished wood surface.

"We've gone through the primary servers seized from Arthur’s private study," the agent said, pulling out a sheaf of printed financial records. "You were right, Mrs. Vance. The embezzlement goes far beyond corporate tax evasion. He was laundering capital for an international syndicate through dummy shipping lines in Zurich."

Eleanor didn't look surprised. She slowly turned a gold-nibbed fountain pen between her slender fingers. "Arthur was never satisfied with just my family's money. He wanted absolute geopolitical leverage. Did you find the primary offshore ledger?"

"We found it," the agent nodded grimly, tapping a digital tablet. "Locked behind a multi-layer biometric firewall using Arthur’s personal passcodes. We’ve tried cracking the encryption, but it’s rigged to auto-wipe if we trigger a security breach."

Clara stepped forward, setting a small, tarnished silver heart pendant on the table beside the manila folder.

"You don't need a codebreaker, Agent," Clara said evenly. "You just need the right frequency."

The agent frowned, picking up the small silver pendant. "What is this?"

Eleanor leaned forward, resting her elbows on the mahogany table. "That locket isn't just an heirloom, Agent. It’s the physical master key fob for the vault's offline backup server. Arthur had it duplicated from the master vault in Vienna before we were married, thinking it was just a romantic trinket. He never knew it contained a localized quantum transmitter."

She nodded toward the corner of the room.

The Rottweiler lifted its massive head, its dark eyes fixing on the silver pendant in the agent’s hand. A low, rhythmic click emanated from the dog's gold-toned chain collar as it synchronized with the microchip embedded in the locket.

Beep.

Across the entire boardroom wall, the massive floor-to-ceiling projection screens flickered from red warning codes to a pristine, glowing green interface. Thousands of hidden bank accounts, secret property deeds, and encrypted communications logs flooded the displays in cascading waterfalls of data.

The agent stared at the screens in stunned silence, then looked back at Eleanor with a new level of profound respect. "My God... this exposes half the political elite in Western Europe."

"Which is precisely why Arthur thought he was untouchable," Eleanor said softly, standing up from her chair and buttoning her jacket. She walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out over the glittering midnight skyline of the city. "He thought he was buying protection. All he was actually doing was building the cage that would eventually trap him."

"What do you want us to do with all of this, Mrs. Vance?" the agent asked, holding up the tablet.

May you like

Eleanor turned slowly, her face illuminated by the pale light of the financial tickers scrolling across the glass.

"Publish every single line of it," she commanded, her voice ringing with absolute, unyielding authority. "Let the entire world see what happens when you try to steal from a Bernstorff."
