Chapter 9 - THE CUSTODY BATTLE OF THE CENTURYCatchy Title: THE FINAL VERDICT: THE JUDGE’S DECISION LEAVES THE COURTROOM SPEECHLESS!

The federal courtroom in downtown Geneva was packed to absolute capacity. Journalists, legal scholars, and international observers crammed every wooden bench, their cameras and notepads poised for the final gavel of the most high-profile corporate and family litigation in European history.
On the defense side sat Arthur’s high-priced legal team, sweating profusely under their collars as they flipped desperately through statute books, trying to find a legal loophole to salvage their client’s parental rights.
On the prosecution side sat Eleanor Vance, radiant in a tailored cream suit, flanked by Clara and—bizarrely, yet permitted by special judicial dispensation—the massive Rottweiler, which lay quietly at the foot of the table, wearing its gold-toned chain collar, behaving with the dignity of a decorated military veteran.
The heavy oak doors opened, and the honorable Judge Hauer stepped up to the bench, his black robes rustling in the absolute silence of the room.
"Please be seated," Judge Hauer announced, his voice deep and resonant. He adjusted his spectacles, looking down at the thick stack of parchment before him.
"We have reviewed the extensive evidence presented by the Bernstorff Trust, the forensic audits of Vance Global Holdings, and the family court evaluations regarding the welfare of minor child Lily Vance," the judge continued, scanning the courtroom. "The petitioner, Arthur Vance, has requested joint custody and visitation rights, citing his biological paternity."
A murmur rippled through the gallery. Arthur’s lead attorney looked up with a glimmer of desperate hope.
Judge Hauer paused, looking directly down at Eleanor, then casting his gaze toward the back of the courtroom where Arthur sat via live video feed from his maximum-security holding cell, looking pale and broken on a wall-mounted monitor.
"However," Judge Hauer raised a hand, cutting off the murmur instantly. "Family law does not merely look at biology. It looks at safety, intent, moral custodianship, and the emotional well-being of the child."
The judge picked up a single sheet of paper from the top of the pile.
"Furthermore," Judge Hauer continued, his tone turning granite-hard, "this court has reviewed the original adoption and guardianship papers filed by Arthur Vance six years ago—papers which this court has now discovered were forged using a deceased broker's identity to bypass mandatory background checks."
On the live video feed, Arthur’s head dropped into his hands.
"Therefore," Judge Hauer struck his gavel down with a sharp, echoing crack that silenced the entire room, "the parental rights of Arthur Vance are hereby terminated in their entirety, effective immediately. Full, exclusive legal and physical guardianship of Lily Vance is awarded solely to Eleanor Vance, with secondary execution rights vested in Clara von Bernstorff."
A collective gasp swept through the gallery.

Eleanor didn't smile. She didn't cheer. She simply closed her leather folder with a soft, definitive click, stood up, and buttoned her jacket.
As the federal bailiffs prepared to clear the courtroom, the live video feed from the prison cell zoomed in on Arthur’s face on the monitor. His lips moved silently, forming words that no one in the courtroom could hear—words swallowed forever by the concrete walls of his cell.
