Chapter 2 - THE ENEMY OF MY ENEMY

💥 THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL: HOW A BROKEN CAKE UNCOVERED A TOXIC FAMILY’S WEB OF LIES! 💥By 2:00 PM, Gabriel was sitting in a sleek, glass-walled office in downtown Guadalajara. Across the mahogany desk sat Uncle Alejandro, reviewing a stack of digital contracts and bank statements that Gabriel had frantically printed out.

The silence in the room was suffocating. Finally, Alejandro lowered his glasses and looked at Gabriel with a mixture of pity and grim satisfaction.

"They played you beautifully, nephew," Alejandro said, tapping the documents. "Ximena didn't just forge your signature on the secondary loan documents. Look at the IP address used to authorize the digital tokens. They were sent from your mother’s house while you were visiting them for Thanksgiving last year. They stole your phone, authorized the secondary banking tokens, and set you up as the sole primary debtor. Emiliano, her fiancé, isn't even mentioned in these documents. He is completely legally insulated."

Gabriel slammed his fist onto the desk. "Can we arrest her? Can we stop the wedding?"

"If we file police charges for identity theft right now, the bank will freeze all your assets immediately for investigation," Alejandro explained calmly. "That means your savings of $112,000 will be locked up for months. You won't be able to pay for Nicolás’s inhalers or his school tuition. Furthermore, because you technically signed the original venue pre-approval, the burden of proof to clear your name will take a long, agonizing trial. Ximena knows this. She’s betting that you’ll choose financial ruin over seeing your mother and sister in handcuffs."

"So I just let her win?!" Gabriel cried out, his voice cracking with despair. "I let her have her dream wedding using my blood, sweat, and tears while my son thinks he isn't even worthy of a birthday cake?"

Alejandro leaned forward, a dangerous glint in his eyes. "Who said anything about letting her win? In law, Gabriel, sometimes you don't stop a train wreck. You accelerate it. Tell me about this fiancé, Emiliano."

Gabriel rubbed his temples. "He’s from a wealthy family in Guadalajara. His parents own a chain of high-end boutique hotels. They’re old money, very traditional, and obsessed with reputation. Ximena has spent the last two years pretending she’s a wealthy socialite to fit into his circle. She told them that our family is paying for the wedding as a sign of our high status."

Alejandro smiled, a slow, predatory grin. "Excellent. So Emiliano’s family believes Ximena is a wealthy heiress, while Ximena is secretly robbing her maintenance-supervisor brother to fund the illusion. And what does Emiliano do?"

"He’s a junior executive at his family’s firm. He’s arrogant, snobbish... but he’s terrified of his father, Don Humberto."

Alejandro pulled up a document on his computer screen. "Interesting. According to the venue contract, since the wedding is legally 100% in your name, you aren't just the debtor, Gabriel. You are the sole legal owner of the event. You own the catering contract. You own the guest list. You own the venue rights for that specific night."

Gabriel’s eyes widened as the realization began to dawn on him. "I own the wedding."

"Exactly," Alejandro whispered. "You have the legal right to alter the guest list, change the menu, reallocate the funds, and authorize entry to the venue premises. If you authorize that final $112,000 transfer today, the wedding goes on. But it goes on under your terms."

Gabriel looked out the window, remembering the image of his little boy crying over a ruined dinosaur cake while Ximena laughed with a wine glass in her hand. He remembered his mother’s cold words: “You are the strong one. You must pay, forgive, and stay silent.”

"Alejandro," Gabriel said, his voice turning into pure steel. "How much of that $250,000 is refundable if changes are made to the services 48 hours before the event?"

Alejandro checked the fine print of the venue contract and chuckled. "The catering and decor can be canceled or downgraded up to 48 hours prior, with a 70% cash refund paid directly to the primary account holder. Which is you."

Gabriel stood up, a dark, brilliant plan forming in his mind. "Authorize the transfer. Let Ximena think she won. Let her think I collapsed under her blackmail."

"And what are we going to do with the venue changes?" Alejandro asked, his pen poised over the legal notice documents.

Gabriel smiled, a cold, unyielding expression. "We are going to give my sister the unforgettable wedding she truly deserves. And we're going to make sure Don Humberto and the entire high society of Guadalajara are there to witness it."
