Chapter 4 - CUFFS AND COLLAPSEThe silence that followed Marcus's words was absolute, heavy enough to crush glass.

Arthur’s smile froze, turning into a grotesque, twitching grimace. "What... what kind of sick joke is this? Who are you? Do you know who I am? I'm a board member at the country club! I contribute to local campaigns!"
"You're a common thief," Marcus said coldly, stepping across the threshold into the foyer. Two federal agents moved swiftly past him, their hands resting lightly on their utility belts as they stepped toward my parents.
"Mom! Dad! What's happening?!" Vanessa shrieked, dropping her iced coffee onto the hardwood floor. The plastic cup shattered, dark brown liquid splashing across her pristine white sneakers. "Why are these men touching you? Tell them to leave!"
Claire clutched her designer handbag to her chest as if it could protect her. Her face went chalk white, all the expensive foundation failing to hide the sudden panic draining her skin. She looked wildly from the federal agents to her husband, and then her eyes landed on me, standing quietly by the kitchen island with a mug of coffee in hand.
Realization hit her like a physical blow. Her mouth parted in silent horror.
"Evelyn..." Claire choked out, her voice trembling. "What... what did you do?"
"Me?" I tilted my head, my tone dripping with sweet innocence. "I didn't do anything, Mother. I was just following Grandmother's instructions. Remember? 'Look behind the family portrait after I’m gone.'"
Arthur spun around, his eyes bulging with blind rage. He lunged forward, ignoring the federal agents, his hand raised as if to strike me across the face. "You ungrateful, scheming little bitch! You set us up!"
Before Arthur could take two steps, a federal agent grabbed his arm, twisted it behind his back with practiced efficiency, and slammed him face-first against the hallway wall. A sharp gasp escaped Arthur's lips as the cold steel of handcuffs snapped around his wrists with a metallic click.
"Hands behind your back! Do not resist!" the agent barked.
"Get your hands off me!" Arthur roared, spitting into the drywall. "This is illegal! My lawyer—where is Samuel Price? Price will tear you apart!"
"Oh, you mean your co-conspirator, Mr. Price?" I asked, stepping closer. I reached into my pocket and pulled out a small digital recorder, pressing play.
The clear, amplified audio of Samuel Price’s voice echoed through the quiet foyer:
"Arthur, if the courts audit this new trust, we're both going away for twenty years. You forged her signature on the deed transfer, not me." "Shut up, Samuel," Arthur's recorded voice snapped back. "Just file the damn paperwork and make sure Evelyn gets nothing. The girl is an idiot; she won't suspect a thing."

The color completely drained from Arthur's face. He stopped struggling, his body going limp against the wall as the audio looped in the quiet hallway.
"Mr. Price is currently being detained at his downtown office," Marcus said smoothly, holding up the freeze warrants. "And every single bank account, investment portfolio, real estate asset, and luxury vehicle belonging to Arthur and Claire Sterling has been frozen effective immediately."
