Chapter 7 - THE FINAL JUDGMENTSix months later, the federal courtroom downtown was packed to capacity.

The trial had been swift and devastating. With the forensic audit trail I provided, combined with Samuel Price's full confession in exchange for a reduced sentence, the defense had no room to maneuver. Arthur and Claire Sterling sat at the defense table, their designer suits replaced by coarse orange jumpsuits, their hair graying, their arrogant postures completely collapsed.

Judge Robert Vance—Marcus’s uncle—presided over the bench with stern, unwavering gravity.

"Arthur Sterling," Judge Vance's voice echoed through the wood-paneled courtroom. "You used your position of trust, forged legal documents, and systematically looted the life savings of an elderly, vulnerable woman who happened to be your own mother. Your actions represent a gross violation of both law and human decency."

Arthur stared blankly at the polished mahogany table, unable to meet anyone's eyes.

"On the charges of grand wire fraud, elder exploitation, and conspiracy, this court sentences you to twelve years in federal prison without the possibility of parole for the first eight years," Judge Vance continued, banging his gavel sharply. "Claire Sterling, for your active participation and laundering of stolen assets, you are sentenced to eight years in federal prison."

Claire buried her face in her handcuffed hands, letting out a muffled, broken sob that echoed through the silent room.

Vanessa, sitting in the public gallery behind them, wiped away angry tears. Without her trust fund, she had dropped out of university, her elite friends had vanished into thin air, and she was currently working a minimum-wage retail job just to pay for cheap public transit. She turned her head, locking eyes with me across the courtroom aisle.

There was no arrogance left in her gaze. Just hollow, burning regret.

I didn't blink. I didn't smile. I simply looked back at her with calm, steady indifference, then turned my attention forward as the bailiffs led my parents away in chains.

The empire built on lies had crumbled into dust.
