CHAPTER 2 — WHAT THE CAMERA SAW
The first night, nothing happened.
Lora sat beside the crib.
Lily slept peacefully.
The footage looked completely normal.
The second night was the same.
But on the third night, everything changed.
The next morning Emma loaded the recording onto her laptop while Ryan made coffee.
They expected another boring video.
Instead, they froze.
At 2:17 a.m., Lily suddenly stopped moving.
At first it was subtle.
A tiny shift.
Then complete stillness.
The baby wasn't crying.
Wasn't kicking.
Wasn't moving at all.
Lora immediately stood up.
Her ears perked.
Her body became rigid.
She placed both front paws against the crib.
Then she began whining.
The couple watched in stunned silence.
For nearly thirty seconds the baby remained motionless.
Then Lora did something shocking.
She nudged the crib repeatedly with her nose.
Again.
Again.
Again.
The movement slightly shifted Lily's position.
Suddenly the baby gasped.
Her tiny arms jerked.
And she began breathing normally again.
Emma covered her mouth.
"Oh my God..."
Ryan stared at the screen.
The room felt ice cold.
They replayed the footage five times.
The same conclusion appeared every time.
Lora had noticed something wrong before anyone else.
That afternoon they rushed Lily to a pediatric specialist.
After several examinations, doctors discovered that Lily suffered from a rare breathing condition that occasionally caused dangerous pauses during sleep.
The doctor looked at the couple seriously.
"If nobody had noticed these episodes, the consequences could have been devastating."
Emma burst into tears.
Ryan felt sick.
Every night they had slept peacefully while their daughter silently struggled.
And somehow their dog had known.
For several days relief filled the house.
The mystery seemed solved.
But Lora's behavior didn't stop.
In fact, she became even more alert.
She continued guarding the crib every night.
