CHAPTER 1 — They Called Him a Joke… Until He Asked for Just Two Minutes

Nobody expected the poorest contestant of the night to become the most unforgettable.
When the skinny young man rolled his battered drum kit to the center of the stage, cameras immediately zoomed in—not because anyone believed he had talent, but because the producers thought he would become the night's funniest failure.
The audience laughed before he even sat down.
A teenage contestant backstage whispered loudly enough for everyone nearby to hear.
"Did he steal that drum set from a landfill?"
Another replied with a grin.
"I've seen trash cans in better condition."
More laughter.
The young man never answered.
Instead, he carefully unfolded an old faded cloth from his backpack and gently wiped the dusty cymbals, almost as if they were priceless treasures.
One of the judges rolled his eyes.
"Look at him polishing garbage."
Another judge leaned toward the microphone.
"You know this competition awards twenty thousand dollars, right? Not free food."
The audience exploded again.
Even the television cameras caught people wiping tears of laughter from their faces.
The host walked closer.
"So tell us... where did you actually get these drums?"
For the first time, the young man looked up.
"My father built most of them."
The room became slightly quieter.
"Built them?" the host asked.
"Yes."
He gently touched the cracked snare.
"When I was ten years old, we couldn't afford a real drum set. My father collected broken instruments from music stores after they threw them away. Every weekend we repaired them together."
He smiled softly.
"He always told me that music doesn't come from expensive instruments... it comes from the person holding the sticks."
For a brief moment...
No one laughed.
But only for a moment.
One producer smirked.
"Beautiful story."
Another judge interrupted.
"Unfortunately, inspiring speeches aren't part of the scoring."
The laughter returned.
The young man lowered his eyes again.
Inside his jacket pocket was an old photograph.
A smiling man stood beside this exact drum kit.
His father.
The edges of the picture were worn from years of being carried everywhere.
No one noticed him quietly kiss the photograph before placing it back inside his pocket.
Only one elderly stage technician standing near the curtains noticed.
His expression suddenly changed.
His eyes widened.
He stared at the drum set.
Then at the young man's face.
Then back at the drums.
Almost as if he had recognized something impossible.
Meanwhile, backstage...
The other contestants kept mocking him.
A drummer from another band laughed.
"If he lasts thirty seconds without those sticks breaking, I'll quit music forever."
His friends burst into laughter.
The television director loved every second.
"Keep the cameras rolling," he whispered.
"This embarrassment is going viral."
Millions of viewers watching from home flooded social media with comments.
"This is painful."
"Who let this homeless guy in?"
"Best comedy act tonight."
"Poor kid... somebody help him."
Very few believed he had any chance.
Then the young man quietly sat behind the drums.
He closed his eyes.
He wasn't listening to the audience anymore.
He was remembering something.
Years earlier...
A tiny garage.
Rain leaking through the roof.
His father placing those same cracked drumsticks into his small hands.
"If people laugh before you play..."
his father had whispered,
"...good."
The little boy looked confused.
"Why?"
His father smiled.
"Because it'll make their silence afterward even louder."
Back in the present...
The young man slowly opened his eyes.
He adjusted the broken drumsticks.
Raised them into the air.
And then...
He didn't strike the drums.
Instead...
He stood back up.
The audience looked confused.
One judge sighed dramatically.
"Oh no..."
"Now he's forgotten how drums work."
The hall erupted into laughter one last time.
The young man calmly walked toward the microphone.
His voice was almost trembling.
"I only have one request."
Silence.
"If I fail..."
"You never have to remember my name."
He looked directly at every judge.
"But if I succeed..."
"I want you to remember my father's."
Then...
He quietly spoke a name that made one elderly judge suddenly freeze in his chair.
His face turned completely pale.
The microphone slipped from his hand.
Because that name belonged to a drummer the entire music world believed had died twenty years ago...
...the greatest percussion genius no one had ever been able to replace.
And suddenly...
The laughter stopped.

Every single person in the hall realized something extraordinary was about to happen.
