Chapter 6 - The Trap Sprung"Run to the basement!" I yelled, pulling Anna toward the kitchen service door.

Marcus laughed over the intercom, his footsteps accelerating down the stairs. "There is no escape, Anna! The whole house is sealed! Once you inhale the vapor, it will all be over, just like Richard!"
We burst through the kitchen door and slammed it shut, wedging a heavy oak chair beneath the handle. I pointed my flashlight down the dark basement stairs.
"In there!" I urged.
Luna leapt from my arms, darting ahead into the damp darkness of the basement. We followed frantically as the door behind us began to splinter under the force of Marcusās crowbar.
Down in the basement, the air smelled of wet stone and old iron. Luna stopped near a far wall covered in heavy wooden shelving, turning around and meowing urgently.
"Sheās showing us something!" I shouted over the sound of breaking wood upstairs.

I rushed over and shoved the heavy shelves aside. Hidden behind them was a low, heavy steel access hatchāand it was unlatched.
