Chapter 7 - Shadows in the NightInside the narrow chamber lay old electrical schematics, survival rations, and a master control console monitoring every room in the house. But right beside the console sat a dusty wooden box sealed with industrial tape—the final proof of Richard’s tragic fate.

"He kept Richard's remains here..." Anna cried out, her heart breaking into a million pieces.

"Anna, look! An exterior maintenance tunnel!" I pointed to an iron ladder leading upward into a narrow storm drain that vented outside the foundation.

BANG!

The basement door shattered upstairs. Marcus’s heavy boots thundered down the concrete steps.

"I know you're down here, Anna!" Marcus yelled, his voice echoing in the underground space. "That damn cat ruined eighteen months of meticulous planning! But it ends tonight!"

"Go! Up the ladder! NOW!" I shoved Anna toward the steel rungs.

Luna scrambled up first like an agile gray shadow. Anna climbed frantically behind her. I turned back just as Marcus rounded the corner of the basement, holding a heavy iron bar and a chemical canister.

CHAPTER HOOK: Marcus lunged at me, but he didn't see Luna waiting at the top of the hatch frame, ready to launch her final strike.
