Chapter 9 - The Ultimate ReckoningThe realization hit the room like a physical blow.

Every conspiracy, every betrayal, every whispered plot in dark corners over the past three months had been orchestrated, monitored, and fed to them by the very man they had tried to execute. The diamond heist? A simulated loss to test loyalty. The leaked coordinates? Breadcrumbs leading straight into a digital trap.
K19 let out a low, whimpering cry, curling into a fetal position on the floor as the weight of his own monumental stupidity crushed him. —You... you played us all...— he choked out.
—I didn't play you, K19, the boss said, his voice hardening into steel. —I gave you enough rope to build your own gallows. You chose to tie the knot.—
He turned to Tommy and the other eleven guards, who were standing in stunned silence, their weapons hanging limply at their sides.
—You thought I abandoned you, the boss said, looking each of them in the eye. —You thought power made me blind to the rot in my own house. But look around this room. The rats are exposed. The boss walked over to Tommy, reached out, and picked up the guard’s dropped pistol from the floor, sliding it back into Tommy’s holster with his own hand.
—A soldier who realizes his mistake is twice as valuable as one who never made one, the boss said firmly. —Pick up your weapon. We have a city to clean up.—
Vance, realizing his mission was a total, catastrophic failure and his career was officially buried beneath layers of state and federal treason charges, slumped back into his chair, staring blankly at the ceiling.

Miller clicked his briefcase shut, the secure locks snapping into place with a definitive, final sound. —What do we do with the federal trash, boss?—
—Hand them over to the internal affairs division that isn't on Vance's payroll, the boss said smoothly, turning toward the shattered exit of the club. —And as for K19... leave him here. Let the morning paper explain how the most brilliant strategist in the city managed to trip over his own ambition.—
