Chapter 3 - The Footage Doesn't Lie

The silence in the grand ballroom was deafening. Guests exchanged wide-eyed looks, whispers spreading like wildfire across the tables. Chloe's face went completely white, the color draining from her cheeks until she looked as pale as her wedding veil.

"V-Vance Global?" Eleanor stammered, taking an instinctive step backward. "That's... that's impossible. Vivienne works as an assistant at an architecture firm!"

"She owns that architecture firm, Mrs. Sterling," Arthur’s chief legal counsel, Mr. Harrison, interjected smooth as velvet. "And she was simply living modestly, as she requested, to see if your family possessed a shred of genuine human decency. Clearly, you failed the test miserably."

"This is ridiculous!" Chloe shrieked, her voice cracking into hysteria as she tried to regain control of the room. "I don't care who her father is! She still stole my million-dollar diamond ring! Look at my purse! Look at her dress! Search her thoroughly!"

I stepped out from beneath my father's protective arm, resting a hand gently on my bump. "We don't need to search anyone, Chloe. We just need to check the security feeds."

I pointed directly up at the small, blinking red lens mounted above the mahogany exit doors.

Chloe’s cousin, Amanda, who had been trying to slide toward the restrooms, froze instantly. Her face flushed red, and her fingers tightened around her silver evening clutch.

Arthur gestured to the hotel's General Manager, who stood terrified beside the security team. "Bring up the high-definition feeds from Ballroom A on the main projector screens immediately."

"Wait! No!" Chloe shouted, running toward the projector controls. "You can't display private footage at my wedding!"

"It's not your wedding anymore, Miss Sterling," Arthur declared coldly. "It's a crime scene."

Within seconds, the massive LED screens mounted behind the head table flickered to life. The crystal-clear 4K footage played back the last fifteen minutes in crisp detail.

The screen showed Chloe standing near the champagne fountain, drinking heavily. As she adjusted her dress, the massive diamond ring slipped off her finger, dropping silently onto the plush carpet behind her. Seconds later, the footage zoomed in on Amanda. Amanda looked around nervously, spotted the ring on the floor, kicked it subtly under her satin pump, scooped it up, and slipped it directly into her silver clutch bag.

Gasps exploded across the room.

The camera then captured the exact moment Chloe realized her ring was missing—and instead of looking down, her eyes immediately locked on me with calculated malice. The footage clearly showed Chloe signaling her mother, followed by Eleanor lunging forward and intentionally tearing the back of my maternity dress to humiliate me.
