Chapter 8 - The Federal Sting

Three days later, Richard Sterling held a desperate, secret meeting at a private lounge near the docks. Believing he still had access to the fifteen million dollars stored in the offshore account, he had arranged for a private jet to fly him, Eleanor, and Dominic out of the country to a non-extradition nation.

Dominic sat across from his father, looking pale and haggard, his suit rumpled.

"Is everything ready, Dad?" Dominic whispered nervously. "If we leave tonight, we can start over in South America. Let Vivienne take the fall when the auditors find the missing funds."

"Don't worry, son," Richard sneered, pouring himself a glass of scotch. "The foolish girl has no idea. Her rich father might save her from Chloe's petty wedding drama, but the federal government will freeze all her assets the moment I trigger the transfer. She’ll be spending her maternity leave in a federal prison."

Richard pulled out a encrypted laptop, opened the offshore banking portal, and initiated the final multi-million-dollar wire transfer.

"Transfer Complete," the screen flashed green.

Richard chuckled, raising his glass. "To the Sterling family. We always win."

Suddenly, the lights in the lounge went out. Red emergency strobes flashed, and the heavy doors were kicked open with a deafening bang.

"Federal Agents! Nobody move!"

Dozen of heavily armed federal officers swarmed the room, guns raised, followed by state prosecutors and my father's legal team. Standing right behind the lead agent was me, dressed in an elegant white maternity coat, looking at them with calm disdain.

"Richard Sterling," the lead agent announced, snapping heavy steel cuffs onto Richard’s wrists. "You are under arrest for federal bank fraud, wire fraud, identity theft, and grand embezzlement."

Richard’s glass shattered on the floor. "What?! You can't arrest me! That money belonged to my company!"

"That money was traced forty-eight hours ago," I said, stepping forward into the light. "We let you execute that wire transfer tonight specifically so the feds could capture you executing the crime in real-time. Every keystroke was recorded."

Dominic scrambled backward, his face twisted in horror. "Vivienne! Please! I was forced into this by my father! I didn't want to do it!"

"Save it for the judge, Dominic," I replied coldly. "You signed the documents. You tried to send the mother of your child to prison."
