Chapter 5 - The Eviction

As Chloe and Eleanor were escorted out in tears and handcuffs, the remaining guests began hurriedly collecting their belongings, terrified of being caught in the crossfire of the Vance family's wrath.
Dominic fell to his knees in front of me, grabbing the hem of my father's coat.
"Vivienne, please!" he sobbed, tears streaming down his face. "I love you! Think about our baby! We can fix this! I'll cut my family off completely! I'll never speak to my mother or Chloe again!"
I looked down at the man I had spent three years protecting, the man I had given up my comfortable life for, just to live in a modest apartment and endure daily cruelty from his relatives. I felt no anger left—only a cold, hollow pity.
"You didn't protect me when I needed you most, Dominic," I said softly, my voice calm and unwavering. "You asked me to tolerate abuse so your family would accept me. But I don't need their acceptance. And I certainly don't need yours."
I reached into my pocket, pulled out my black electronic access card—the one Chloe had sneered at when dumping my purse—and tossed it at his knees.
"What is this?" Dominic stammered, looking at the card.
"That's the master key card to the penthouse apartment we live in," I said. "The apartment you thought you were renting from a generous landlord. My father owns the entire building. Security is changing the locks right now. Your clothes will be packed in boxes and left at your father's office tomorrow morning."
"Vivienne, no! You can't throw me out! I'm your husband!"
"Not for long," Mr. Harrison added, handing Dominic a freshly printed envelope. "Here are your divorce papers, emergency protective orders, and a summons for full legal and physical custody of the unborn child. Signed by a judge thirty minutes ago."
Dominic collapsed onto the floor, staring blankly at the legal documents as my father gently guided me toward the ballroom exit.

As we walked out into the crisp night air, lined by a fleet of black luxury sedans, my father looked down at me with soft eyes. "Where would you like to go, sweetheart?"
"Home, Dad," I replied, wrapping the coat tighter around myself. "Take me home."
