Chapter 6 - The Confrontation at the Lake“It’s my birthday, Andrew,” Claire said, her voice eerily calm as she stepped into the living room. “And I decided I wanted to inspect the plumbing leak myself.”

Andrew scrambled backward, nearly tripping over the coffee table. “Claire, listen to me. This isn’t what it looks like. Chloe is just... she’s a client from the Syracuse office, her car broke down—”

“Save your breath, Andrew,” Claire interrupted, tossing the manila envelope onto the coffee table right beside the champagne glasses. The photographs spilled out, showing Andrew and Chloe in compromising positions across various rooms of the very house Claire’s inheritance had paid for.

Chloe’s face flushed crimson. “You have no right to barge in here! Andrew told me you were cold, unloving, and that you were practically separated!”

“He told you a lot of things, didn't he?” Claire turned her piercing paramedic gaze toward her husband. “He told you he owned this house, didn't he, Chloe? He told you he was a successful regional director who provided everything.”

Andrew’s hands began to shake. “Claire, please. Let’s talk about this at home. Mom is waiting—”

“Mom is currently packing her bags,” Claire cut him off sharply. “And so are you.”
