Chapter 2 - The Trap Snaps Shut

“You Thought You Were the Hunter, Alejandro. Welcome to Your Cage.”The heavy wooden door did not just swing open; it revealed a wall of flashing blue and red lights that painted the wet cobblestones of Coyoacán in shades of warning.
Standing on the threshold was not a helpless bystander.
It was Mr. Garza, the Mendoza family’s trusted attorney, flanked by four uniformed officers of the state police and a man holding a high-definition video camera. Behind them, a crowd of whispering neighbors had already gathered, their phones raised to capture the fall of Coyoacán’s most notorious prodigal husband.
"Good evening, Alejandro," Mr. Garza said, his voice as cold and smooth as polished marble. He stepped into the foyer, brushing past a stunned Paola, who instinctively tried to hide her face behind her designer handbag. "I believe you are currently trespassing on private property, committing domestic assault, and attempting grand extortion."
Alejandro’s face drained of color. He quickly let go of his injured wrist, trying to adopt his usual posture of arrogant authority. "This is a family matter, Garza! Get these cops out of my house. Camila is my wife. We are married under joint marital assets (sociedad conyugal). Half of this house—and half of whatever her dead parents left behind—belongs to me!"
Mr. Garza took a slow, deliberate step forward, pulling a blue folder from his leather briefcase.
"Under normal circumstances, Alejandro, you might have tried to exploit that legal loophole," Mr. Garza said, his voice echoing in the tense silence of the room. "But your late father-in-law, Don Alberto Mendoza, was a brilliant man. He knew exactly what kind of parasitic coward you were."
Mr. Garza opened the folder.
"Two weeks before his tragic accident, Don Alberto legally modified the deed of this house and the structure of his commercial properties. They were placed into an ironclad trust. The sole beneficiary is Camila Mendoza. Under Mexican federal law, inherited trust funds are strictly excluded from marital assets, regardless of your marriage contract. You have legal right to exactly zero pesos."
"No... that's impossible!" Alejandro roared, his voice cracking. He turned to Camila, his eyes wild with a mixture of pain, rage, and sudden panic. "You manipulated him! You did this!"
"And there is more," Camila said. Her voice didn't shake. She wiped the streak of blood from her lip, her eyes locking onto his with an icy intensity he had never seen before. "Look up, Alejandro."
Alejandro looked at the ceiling. In the corners of the high-beamed dining room, tiny green lights were blinking.
"The security cameras," Paola whispered, her voice trembling with sudden realization. "Alejandro... the cameras are recording."
"Every single second," Camila confirmed. "From the moment you used your key to break in, to the moment you grabbed me by my hair, to your demands for my parents' money. It has all been streamed directly to a secure cloud server. And right now..." She gestured to the man with the camera next to Mr. Garza. "...it is being recorded for the official police report."
The lead police officer stepped forward, pulling a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his belt. "Alejandro Silva, you are under arrest for breaking and entering, domestic violence, and attempted extortion. Put your hands behind your back."
"Wait!" Paola shrieked, stepping away from Alejandro as if he were radioactive. "I have nothing to do with this! I just came with him! I didn't touch her!"
"You walked into a grieving woman's home to assist in her abuse, Paola," Camila said, her voice dripping with quiet contempt. "You are just as guilty. Officer, she is an accomplice."
As the handcuffs clicked loudly around Alejandro’s wrists, he let out a guttural scream of fury. He tried to lung forward, but two officers firmly held him down.
"This isn't over, Camila!" Alejandro spat, a venomous glare in his eyes as he was dragged toward the door. "You think you're smart? You think some cops can keep me locked up? I still have friends in high places! I will take every single cent you have, and when I'm done, you'll be begging me for scraps!"
Camila stood perfectly still as her husband and his mistress were led out of the house in handcuffs, their dramatic arrest illuminated by the flashing police lights.

But as the heavy door finally closed, leaving the house in a deafening, hollow silence, Mr. Garza turned to Camila with a deeply worried expression.
"He's right about one thing, Camila," the attorney murmured. "Alejandro is desperate. And a desperate, cornered rat is the most dangerous animal alive."
