Chapter 4 - THE WHISTLEBLOWER'S SHADOW

While Victoria was frantically trying to secure emergency loans from international banks—only to find that every single bank suddenly refused to take her calls—Richard was working behind the scenes with surgical precision.

In a high-tech war room set up in a private skyscraper downtown, Marcus and his team were monitoring every digital communication coming out of Vance Enterprises.

"Boss," Marcus said, clicking a mouse. "Victoria just tried to transfer $50 million from the company’s offshore subsidiary in the Cayman Islands to an untraceable Swiss account. She's preparing a flee plan."

Richard stood behind Marcus, sipping dark coffee, watching financial graphs fluctuate on giant monitors. "Block the transfer. Have our legal team notify the Department of Justice that an unauthorized capital flight is occurring. Freeze the Cayman accounts."

"Done," Marcus smiled. "By the way, someone is trying to contact your private line. They claim they have information about what happened to Maya during the months you were overseas."

Richard's eyes softened, replaced by a cold, protective instinct. "Put them through."

The audio played over the speakers. A woman's voice, trembling and tearful, filtered through.

"Mr. Vance? Is... is that really you?"

"Speaking," Richard said. "Who is this?"

"My name is Sarah... I was the assistant house manager at your mansion," the voice whimpered. "I was fired two weeks ago because I tried to give your daughter Maya a warm meal and a coat when Victoria locked her in the cold wine cellar for two days without food."

Richard’s fist clenched so hard his knuckles popped. "Tell me everything, Sarah. Every single detail. Don't leave anything out."

Sarah began to sob. "It was awful, Mr. Vance! The moment you boarded your plane for business trips, Mrs. Sterling and her son Julian transformed the house into a nightmare. They confiscated Maya's phone so she couldn't call you. They forced her to sleep in the old servant quarters in the basement—there was no heater, no proper bed, just a thin mattress on the floor!"

"Go on," Richard demanded through gritted teeth.

"Julian... he bullied her constantly," Sarah continued. "He made her wash his sports cars in the freezing rain with a toothbrush. If she missed a spot, he would pour dirty water over her head and film it on his phone! They threatened her, Mr. Vance! They told her that if she said a word to you when you returned, they would accuse her of stealing jewelry and have her sent to a juvenile prison forever! She was terrified!"

Inside the war room, the room grew dead silent. Even Marcus's seasoned mercenaries looked visibly disgusted by what they were hearing.

"Do you have evidence?" Richard asked, his voice deathly quiet. "Videos? Security logs? Written orders?"

"Yes!" Sarah blurted out. "I knew what they were doing was wrong! I secretly saved security camera backups on a hidden flash drive before Arthur Sterling wiped the main servers! I have footage of Julian throwing food at her, footage of Victoria slapping her, and audio recordings of Victoria planning to frame Maya for theft!"

Richard closed his eyes, taking a deep, ragged breath to control the explosive fury threatening to consume him.

"Sarah," Richard said softly. "Where are you right now?"

"I'm at a bus station downtown... I was trying to leave the city because Victoria's private guards have been looking for me..."

"Stay where you are," Richard commanded. "A black SUV will pick you up in three minutes. You will be safe, you will be protected, and I will pay you five million dollars for that flash drive."

Ten minutes later, the flash drive was plugged into the war room's main server.

The video feeds appeared on the large screen.

Richard watched in harrowing detail as his precious daughter—the girl he promised to protect—was subjected to relentless, cruelty and humiliation by Victoria and Julian. He saw Julian laughing as he poured bucket after bucket of ice water over Maya's shivering body while she scrubbed the driveway. He saw Victoria slapping Maya across the face for accidentally dropping a tea saucer.

When the footage finished playing, Richard stood in the middle of the room, staring at the blank screen.

He didn't yell. He didn't smash anything.

He simply turned to Marcus.

"Change of plans," Richard whispered. "Don't just bankrupt them. I want criminal charges. I want Julian in a maximum-security prison. I want Victoria in chains. And I want it done by tomorrow night."
