Chapter 5 - THE TRAP CLOSES

It was a lavish, black-tie charity gala at the Grand Plaza Hotel—the biggest social event of the year for the city's high-society elite.
Victoria Sterling arrived wearing a dazzling $200,000 emerald dress, draped in diamonds, flanked by Julian and her brother Arthur. She walked down the red carpet with her head held high, trying desperately to project power and stability despite the rumors surrounding her legal battles with Richard.
"Mrs. Sterling! Over here!" news reporters shouted, flashes blinding the night sky. "Is it true that Vance Enterprises is facing insolvency?!"
"Nonsense!" Victoria smiled brilliantly into the cameras. "My husband Richard is currently suffering from a severe mental breakdown and exhaustion. I am simply stepping up to protect our family business and our stockholders. Everything is under complete control!"
She glided into the grand ballroom, where hundreds of wealthy investors, politicians, and socialites were drinking champagne under towering crystal chandeliers.
Victoria felt a rush of pride. She had finally achieved her life's ambition. She was at the top of the pyramid. Richard was defeated, hidden away like a rat in the dark, helpless to stop her.
She took the stage, picking up a microphone to deliver her keynote speech as the new head of Vance Enterprises.
"Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests," Victoria began, her voice echoing smoothly through the ballroom speakers. "Tonight, as we gather to support the city's children's charity, I am proud to announce that Vance Enterprises will be entering a new era of unprecedented growth under my leadership..."
BZZZZT!
Suddenly, the massive LED screens behind the stage glitched. The bright promotional graphics vanished, replaced by static.
The crowd gasped in confusion.
"What's happening?" Victoria whispered nervously, turning around to glare at the AV technicians. "Fix that immediately!"
Before anyone could react, the static cleared.
A video began to play on the giant screens—amplified by the ballroom’s high-definition audio system.
It was the clear, high-resolution footage from the flash drive.
The entire ballroom fell into a stunned, horrified silence as Julian’s voice boomed through the speakers: "Scrub faster, you little rat! You're nothing but a dog in this house! If you tell my stepfather, I'll kill you!"
On screen, the audience watched as Julian dumped a bucket of filthy, icy water over Maya’s head, while Victoria stood in the background, laughing and sipping wine.
The video cut to another scene: Victoria striking Maya across the face, calling her trash, and locking her in the dark, rusty wine cellar while the girl begged for mercy.
Shocked gasps erupted throughout the ballroom. Women covered their mouths in horror. Wealthy investors dropped their glasses, which shattered on the floor.
"Turn it off! TURN IT OFF RIGHT NOW!" Victoria screamed wildly into the microphone, her face turning bright red, all her sophistication shattering in a single instant. "Julian! Arthur! Shut down the power!"
Julian ran toward the control booth, but two large men in black suits stepped in front of him, blocking his path.
"Where do you think you're going, kid?" one of the men growled, grabbing Julian by his collar and shoving him backward onto the floor.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the ballroom swung open with a loud bang.
Walking down the center aisle, accompanied by twenty armed federal agents and local police officers, was Richard Vance.
Beside him walked Maya. She was dressed in a beautiful, elegant white dress, her hair done neatly, holding her father's hand with confidence and pride.
The crowd parted like the Red Sea as Richard walked toward the stage, his eyes fixed on Victoria like a predator closing in on its prey.
"Richard...!" Victoria stammered, backing away until her heels hit the edge of the stage. "This... this is a misunderstanding! That video is fake! It's a deepfake created by your team!"
"Is it?" Richard said, stopping at the base of the stage. He raised his hand.
The Lead Prosecutor step forward, holding a stack of legal warrants.
"Victoria Sterling, Julian Sterling, and Arthur Sterling," the prosecutor announced in a loud, booming voice that echoed through the silent room. "You are under arrest for aggravated child abuse, unlawful restraint, corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit extortion."
"No! You can't arrest me! I'm the CEO of Vance Enterprises!" Victoria screamed as two police officers stepped onto the stage and grabbed her arms.
"Not anymore," Richard said softly, taking out his phone and displaying a document. "Thirty minutes ago, the Securities and Exchange Commission, acting on evidence of your massive embezzlement, suspended your voting rights. The emergency board has unanimously reappointed me as Chairman and CEO. You own nothing, Victoria. You are broke."
As the handcuffs clicked around Victoria’s wrists, Julian began to weep hysterically on the floor as officers pinned him down.
"Mom! Help me! Mom!" Julian cried out.
Victoria was dragged down from the stage, her emerald dress ruined, her hair disheveled, forced to pass right in front of Maya.

Maya looked directly into Victoria's panic-stricken eyes. She didn't scream, she didn't show hatred. She simply looked at her former tormentor with quiet pity.
"You told me I was nothing, Victoria," Maya said, her voice clear and strong. "But you're the one going to prison."
