CHAPTER 8 — The Vault Beneath the Ocean

Forty-eight hours later...

An anonymous package arrived at Elena's office.

No return address.

Inside was an old brass key.

Attached to it...

A handwritten note.

"If you want the truth, come alone."

Coordinates followed.

Not a building.

Not an office.

An abandoned harbor.

Against everyone's advice, Elena went.

Waiting there was an aging cargo captain.

Without saying a word, he handed her a satellite phone.

"It belonged to your father."

The line connected instantly.

Michael's voice returned.

"There's something Damian never told you."

Years earlier...

The founders of Voss Global had created a secure offshore vault.

Not filled with cash.

Not filled with gold.

It contained something worth far more.

Original patents.

Ownership records.

Encrypted evidence capable of exposing hundreds of corrupt corporations around the world.

"It isn't money they're protecting," Michael explained.

"It's history."

The captain started the engine.

Hours later...

The boat stopped above open water.

Divers disappeared beneath the waves.

Minutes passed.

Then...

A massive steel door slowly emerged from beneath the ocean.

An underwater vault.

Untouched for over a decade.

Inside...

Rows of sealed cases waited in darkness.

Elena reached for the first file.

Before she could open it...

The lights shut off.

A laser sight appeared on the wall beside her.

Then another.

Then ten more.

Someone else had found the vault.

A calm voice echoed through the darkness.

"Leave the documents."

"They belong to Black Horizon."

Elena refused to move.

For one heartbeat...

No one breathed.

May you like

Then the first gunshot shattered the silence.

The vault descended into chaos.
