Chapter 3 - The Ghost of Switzerland

Viral Title: THE JANITOR WAS LATE WIFE'S DOCTOR! THE DARK SECRET BEHIND THE BILLIONAIRE'S TWIN DAUGHTER EXPOSED!"Secure the room! Nobody leaves!" Richard roared, his voice echoing through the entire administrative wing of Westfield Academy. Within seconds, his private security team, who always trailed his Maybach, flooded the clinic, blocking the exits.
Dr. Evelyn Harris stood defiantly in front of Lily, shielding the terrified girl with her own body. Her hands were shaking, but her eyes held a fierce, protective rage.
"Get away from her, Richard," Evelyn hissed. "You have no right to her. You never did."
"No right?!" Richard’s face was red, the veins in his temple bulging. "She is my daughter! The database just confirmed it! You told us she died in the incubator, Evelyn! My wife cried herself to sleep for a year! We built a mausoleum for a child that was alive?!"
Maxwell looked between his father and Lily, his young mind trying to process the heavy words. Daughter? Sister? He looked at Lily. Her brown eyes were wide with tears.
"Lily..." Maxwell whispered. "Are you... my twin?"
Lily didn't answer. She grabbed Evelyn’s uniform. "Grandma, what is he saying? Who is he?"
"He is a monster, Lily," Evelyn said coldly, never taking her eyes off Richard. "He is the man who valued his corporate empire more than his own family's safety."
"Explain yourself, Evelyn, or I swear to God you will spend the rest of your life in a federal maximum-security prison for kidnapping!" Richard stepped forward, but his security chief, Thomas, gently put a hand out to caution him.
Evelyn let out a bitter, mocking laugh. "Kidnapping? I didn't kidnap her, Richard. I saved her. Do you even know who funded my clinic in Switzerland seven years ago? Do you know who paid me to tell you and Jennifer that the baby girl died?"
Richard froze. "What are you talking about? It was a private medical group."
"It was Vanguard Holdings," Evelyn spat. "Your main competitor. The very people who orchestrated the 'car accident' that killed Jennifer eight months ago."
A suffocating silence fell over the room.
Maxwell whimpered at the mention of the accident. Richard felt a chill run down his spine. Vanguard Holdings was run by Victor Vance—his fiercest rival, a man who had been trying to hostilely take over Wilson Robotics for a decade.
"Seven years ago," Evelyn continued, her voice trembling with old trauma, "Vanguard discovered that Jennifer’s rare blood type and your genetic sequence created a perfect biological blueprint for advanced neural-link testing. They wanted the child to use as a living lab rat for human-machine interfacing. They threatened my family. They told me if I didn't declare the girl dead and hand her over, they would kill both twins in the delivery room."
"So you gave her to them?!" Richard screamed.
"No!" Evelyn shouted back. "I faked her death, but I hid her! I fled Switzerland, gave up my medical license, and went deep into hiding. I raised Lily in the poorest slums of Los Angeles, working three jobs just to keep her fed and off the grid. I only took the janitorial job across the street to keep an eye on you after I heard about Jennifer's death. I knew Vanguard was closing in again."
Richard’s mind was in freefall. He had spent years believing he was the most powerful man in the state, yet he had been entirely blind to the forces hunting his family.
"If you were hiding her," Richard asked, his voice suddenly dropping to a hollow whisper, "how did she end up enrolled at Westfield Academy? A school that costs a fortune?"
Evelyn looked genuinely confused. "What do you mean? I didn't enroll her. Three weeks ago, an anonymous scholarship letter arrived at our apartment with a paid tuition voucher for Lily. It said it was a charity grant for underprivileged children. I thought... I thought it was a miracle. A chance for her to get out of the poverty I trapped her in."
Richard’s face drained of color. He looked at his security chief. "Thomas... check the Westfield enrollment financial routing numbers. Now."
Thomas quickly pulled out his encrypted satellite phone, typing rapidly. The silence in the room was deafening, broken only by the steady beep of the medical monitor.
Two minutes later, Thomas looked up, his face grim. "Sir... the scholarship wasn't funded by a charity. The routing code traces back to a shell corporation owned by Vanguard Holdings."

Lily wasn't safely hidden. She had been baited.
The Hook: Before Richard could order his team to evacuate both children, the school’s fire alarms began to blare. The overhead sprinklers suddenly activated, drenching the room in icy water, and the electronic locks on the infirmary doors slammed shut, trapping them inside as thick, sweet-smelling gas began to pour through the ventilation vents.
