Chapter 4 - The Playground Siege

Viral Title: THE BILLIONAIRE’S CHILDREN TRAPPED IN A GAS CHAMBER! THE PLAYGROUND BECOMES A WAR ZONE!"Cover your mouths!" Richard yelled, tearing off his $10,000 suit jacket and slamming it against the ventilation shaft, but the heavy, sedative gas was pouring in too fast.

Maxwell began to cough violently, his small hands clutching his chest. His neural prosthetics, sensing the sudden spike in his heart rate and the drop in blood oxygen, began to buzz loudly, entering an emergency override mode. Lily was already slumped against Dr. Evelyn, her eyelids fluttering as the knockout gas took effect.

"Thomas! Break the glass!" Richard choked out, his vision blurring.

Thomas drew his suppressed sidearm and fired three rounds into the reinforced infirmary window. The glass shattered, letting in a rush of fresh, cool California air. Richard grabbed Maxwell and Lily, shoving them toward the window frame. "Get them out! Move!"

They tumbled out onto the grass courtyard just as the entire school erupted into chaos. Hundreds of students were screaming, fleeing the buildings as the fire alarms wailed. But amid the panicked crowd, Richard noticed a group of five men dressed in black tactical gear, moving with chilling precision against the flow of the crowd.

They weren't fleeing. They were heading straight for the infirmary courtyard.

"Vanguard," Richard growled, his billionaire facade completely replaced by a desperate father's protective instinct. "Thomas, we need extraction now!"

"The Maybach is compromised, sir! They’ve jammed our satellite comms!" Thomas shouted, drawing his weapon to lay down cover fire as the tactical team spotted them.

"Run!" Evelyn screamed, grabbing Lily, who was semi-conscious.

But Maxwell couldn't run fast enough. The sudden temperature drop and the gas inhalation had caused a glitch in his neural-adaptive calibration. His titanium legs locked up with a loud, metallic CLANG. He fell hard onto the asphalt, crying out in pain as the force jarred his hip sockets.

"Maxwell!" Richard ran back, scooping his seven-year-old son into his arms. The weight of the titanium legs was immense, but adrenaline made Richard strong.

"Dad, leave me! I'm too heavy! I'm just a robot boy!" Maxwell sobbed, his face pressed into his father's shoulder.

"Shut up, Maxwell! You are my son!" Richard roared, tears finally breaking through his stoic eyes. "I lost your mother! I am not losing you! And I am not losing your sister!"

The tactical team opened fire. Non-lethal, high-impact rubber-jacketed slugs tore through the bushes around them. One struck Thomas in the shoulder, sending him spinning to the ground.

Evelyn and Lily were cornered against the school’s playground fence. The leader of the tactical team, a scarred man with a cold grin, stepped forward, raising a specialized tranquilizer rifle aimed directly at Lily.

"The girl comes with us, Mr. Wilson," the leader shouted over the alarm. "Mr. Vance sends his regards. He says thank you for keeping her safe for seven years."

Richard stood between the gunman and the children, his body acting as a human shield. He had all the money in the world, but in this moment, he was utterly powerless against a bullet.

Suddenly, Lily opened her eyes. The sedation was wearing off, replaced by a surge of pure adrenaline. She looked at Maxwell, who was struggling on the ground, his prosthetics sparks flying from a jammed servo.

"Maxwell!" Lily screamed. "The superhero legs! Remember the beach! Connect to me!"

She reached out her bare, bleeding hand across the dirt.

Maxwell looked at her hand. In that split second, a bizarre phenomenon occurred. The experimental neural-link chip inside Maxwell's spine—the one his father’s engineers had designed using Jennifer's genetic data—sensed the proximity of Lily’s identical DNA. The two children were twins, sharing a rare genetic frequency. The proximity acting like a biological bridge.

Maxwell’s prosthetics didn't just unlock—they overpowered. The blue LED lights along his titanium shins flashed to a brilliant, burning crimson.

The Hook: With a strength that defied physics, Maxwell didn't just stand up; he launched himself forward like a missile, his metal body slamming into the tactical leader with enough force to shatter the man's ribs, sending the rifle flying straight into Richard's hands.
