CHAPTER 9 — THE MAN WHO REMEMBERED EVERYTHING

"No more lies."
My father's voice was steady.
For sixteen years, he had pretended to obey Director Zero.
Pretended to help build her empire.
Pretended to betray his own family.
All while secretly collecting evidence.
Every conversation.
Every payment.
Every victim.
Every name.
He had hidden the files in dozens of countries, waiting for one chance to expose the organization from the inside.
Director Zero sighed.
"I should have killed you years ago."
"You tried."
He smiled.
"You only erased my identity."
"You never erased my purpose."
She slowly reached for a hidden switch beneath the desk.
But this time...
She wasn't fast enough.
A single gunshot shattered the room.
The bullet struck the control panel.
The self-destruct countdown stopped.
Across the underground facility, locked security doors sprang open.
Power returned.
Fresh air rushed through emergency vents.
Outside, rescue helicopters descended as hundreds of survivors emerged into daylight for the first time in years.
Director Zero looked around at her collapsing empire.
Then she laughed.
Not hysterically.
Peacefully.
"I always knew memory would defeat me."
Before anyone could stop her, she swallowed a capsule concealed inside her ring.
Within seconds, she collapsed.
Alive...
But unable to speak.
The greatest manipulator of memories would spend the rest of her life unable to tell another lie.
Months later, the trials exposed one of the largest criminal conspiracies in modern history.
More than three hundred victims recovered their true identities.
Families were reunited.
Governments around the world banned the illegal technology forever.
As for the little boy...
His name was Noah.
He wasn't my biological son.
Years earlier, before my memories were erased, I had promised him one thing:
"No matter what happens..."
"I'll come back for you."
Standing on the cliffs beside the old lighthouse, Noah slipped his small hand into mine.
"You kept your promise."
I looked toward the sunrise and smiled through my tears.
"No."
"We kept it together."
But hundreds of miles away, inside a high-security evidence vault, an investigator opened the final unopened box recovered from Facility Three.
Inside was another black notebook.
On the first page, written in Adrian's handwriting, were six chilling words:
May you like
"Project Lazarus was only the beginning..."
END... OR IS IT?
