Chapter 2 - THE CRIMSON THREAD

Viral Title: She Kept a Stuffed Toy in an Empty Warehouse. When a Billionaire Cut It Open, He Uncovered a 15-Year-Old Lie.Graham didn't hesitate.
He didn't get to be a billionaire by waiting for his opponents to make the first move.
With Maisie tucked firmly under his left arm, he grabbed the heavy wooden crate she had been standing on and hurled it toward the two men. It smashed against the concrete, sending a shower of splinters and dust into the air.
"Hey!" one of the men shouted, stumbling back.
Graham bolted. He didn't go for the stairs—Clara and her men blocked that path. Instead, he ran deeper into the basement, weaving through the maze of old pillars and rusted machinery. He knew this layout. He had memorized the blueprints of the Harrington Warehouse before buying it.
There was an old coal chute in the back corner.
"Hold on tight, Maisie," he muttered.
The girl didn't scream. She didn't cry. She clung to him with a silent, terrifying desperation, her small hands locked into the fabric of his expensive overcoat.
He found the chute. The iron hatch was rusted shut, but Graham slammed his shoulder against it with all his weight. The metal shrieked, groaned, and gave way. Cold Chicago air rushed in, along with a pale beam of late-afternoon light. He pushed Maisie through the opening first, then scrambled up after her, scraping his hands against the rough concrete.
They tumbled out into a narrow, trash-filled alleyway.
"Come on," Graham said, grabbing her hand. They ran through the freezing wind, emerging onto the busy downtown street just as Clara’s men reached the alley. Seeing the crowds of pedestrians, the men stopped, retreating into the shadows.
Graham didn't stop running until they reached his black armored SUV. His driver, a retired military veteran named Marcus, jumped out immediately, opening the door.
"Sir? What happened?" Marcus asked, his eyes widening as he saw the child and the dirt covering Graham’s coat.
"Get us out of here. Now," Graham ordered, climbing into the backseat with Maisie.
The SUV merged into the Chicago traffic. Only then did Graham let out a breath he felt like he’d been holding for years. He looked down at the little girl sitting beside him on the pristine leather seat. She was shivering, still holding the torn stuffed rabbit.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
Maisie nodded slowly. She looked down at her rabbit, then up at Graham. "You saved Barnaby."
"Is that his name?" Graham asked, pointing to the toy.
"Yes. He has a tummy ache," she whispered, pointing to the torn seam at the rabbit's side.
Graham frowned. He looked closer at the tear. The stitching wasn't just loose—it had been deliberately cut, then crudely sewn back together with thick blue thread. He gently reached out. "May I see him?"
Maisie hesitated, then placed the rabbit in Graham's hands.
The toy was heavier than it should have been. There was something hard and rectangular nestled deep inside the polyester stuffing.
Graham unpicked the thick blue thread. He reached his fingers inside the rabbit's torso and pulled out a small, metallic object.

It was a heavily encrypted military-grade flash drive, stained with dried blood.
Hook: The rabbit didn't contain toy stuffing—it held the key to the destruction of the city's elite.
