Chapter 5 - THE GLASS CASTLE CRUMBLES

Viral Title: He Confronted His Stepfather in a Hidden Mansion. The Truth About His Sister Was Worse Than Death. The rain was pouring in sheets as Graham’s SUV tore through the gates of the Vale Estate in the outskirts of Chicago.

Marcus was at the wheel, his face grim, a bandage wrapped around a graze on his temple from the penthouse shootout. In the backseat, Maisie was quietly threading a needle. She had found a spool of blue thread in Marcus’s glovebox emergency kit. She was sewing Barnaby’s ear back on, her tiny hands perfectly steady despite the car bouncing over the gravel driveway.

"Marcus, stay with the car and keep the engine running," Graham ordered as they pulled up to the massive stone mansion. "If I’m not back in fifteen minutes, take Maisie and run."

"Sir, let me come with you," Marcus protested.

"No. Protect her. That’s an order."

Graham stepped out into the storm, his overcoat heavy with water. He didn't knock. He kicked the heavy oak front door open.

The mansion was silent, lit only by the warm glow of a fireplace in the main study.

Sitting in a leather armchair by the fire was Arthur Vale. He looked older, his face lined with deep wrinkles, but his eyes were as sharp and predatory as ever. Beside him stood Clara Harrington.

"Graham," Arthur said, raising a glass of scotch. "You always did have a dramatic entrance."

"Where is Sarah?" Graham demanded, raising his gun and pointing it directly at his stepfather’s chest.

Arthur sighed, taking a sip of his drink. "You think you’re the hero of this story, Graham. But you’re just a boy playing with matches. Sarah was weak. She wanted to expose the family business. She didn't understand that our wealth was built on the Harrington textile supply chains—supply chains that carried more than just cotton."

"You used the warehouses for human trafficking," Graham said, the horrifying truth finally clicking into place.

"We facilitated movement," Clara corrected him coldly. "Highly lucrative movement. Your sister found out. She tried to run with the data. We stopped her. But we didn't kill her, Graham. She died giving birth to that little girl in the warehouse basement. We kept the girl there because she has her mother’s eyes. And because she has her mother's memory."

Arthur stood up, walking toward Graham, ignoring the gun pointed at his chest. "Maisie isn't just a child, Graham. Her mother hid the encryption key in her mind. The girl has hyperthymesia—she remembers everything she sees. Every document, every ledger Sarah showed her before she died. The blue thread she sews? It’s a code. She’s been stitching the coordinates of our entire global network into those toys."

Graham’s blood ran cold.

Maisie wasn't just sewing. She was recording.

"Give us the girl, Graham," Arthur said, reaching out his hand. "And we will let you keep your billions. If not... you will die tonight, and we will take her anyway."

Hook: The little girl’s sewing wasn't a game—it was a map of a global criminal empire.
