CHAPTER 4 — The Husband's Perfect Crime Falls Apart

Emily woke up two days later.
Every bone in her body ached.
Her left shoulder was dislocated.
Three ribs were broken.
Her ankle fractured.
The doctors couldn't believe she was alive.
"Another few feet to the left," one surgeon said,
"and you would've landed directly on the rocks."
Instead...
Emily had crashed through several thick pine trees.
The branches slowed her fall before she landed on soft moss near a narrow stream.
It was nothing short of a miracle.
But the miracle didn't end there.
An elderly man named Samuel had been camping nearby.
A retired Army medic, he heard the impact and rushed toward the sound.
He found Emily unconscious but still breathing.
Instead of calling for help immediately, he first dragged her to safety.
Because only minutes later...
He saw three armed men climbing down the cliff.
Samuel instantly realized they weren't rescuers.
They were hunters.
Waiting until the killers disappeared into the forest, he radioed the park rangers using his emergency satellite transmitter.
By the time authorities arrived...
Emily was alive.
And the killers were trapped.
Meanwhile...
Ryan sat comfortably inside his luxury home.
Champagne filled his glass.
He watched the evening news.
Breaking News.
"Woman Missing After Apparent Mountain Accident."
Ryan smiled.
"It's over," he whispered.
"The company is finally mine."
His phone rang.
It was his lawyer.
"Congratulations," Ryan said cheerfully.
"When can we start transferring the assets?"
There was a long silence.
Then the lawyer spoke quietly.
"Ryan..."
"Turn on Channel Seven."
Ryan frowned.
"It's already on."
"No."
"The live broadcast."
Confused, Ryan switched channels.
His smile disappeared instantly.
Reporters stood outside the regional hospital.
Cameras flashed nonstop.
The headline across the screen read:
"Billionaire Businesswoman Emily Carter Survives Murder Attempt."
Ryan's champagne glass slipped from his hand.
It shattered across the marble floor.
Then the reporter delivered the sentence that destroyed his world.
"Police have confirmed that three suspects are in custody. According to investigators, one of them has already agreed to cooperate and identify the person who ordered the murder."
Ryan's breathing became rapid.
His hands trembled.
"No..."
"No..."
"This can't be happening..."
Before he could move—
BANG!
The front door exploded inward.
"FBI!"
"Ryan Carter!"
"Don't move!"
Armed agents flooded the mansion.
Ryan instinctively turned toward the back door.
But it was too late.
He found himself staring straight into the eyes of Detective Michael Hayes.
The detective slowly held up a transparent evidence bag.
Inside...
Was the black folder Ryan had hidden in his office.
Every forged document.
Every insurance paper.
Every handwritten note.
Every signature.
Detective Hayes smiled coldly.
"You planned the perfect murder."
He snapped a pair of handcuffs around Ryan's wrists.
"But your wife planned something even better."
Ryan looked up in confusion.
"What...?"
The detective leaned closer.
"She copied every single document you tried to hide."
"And she left instructions with her attorney..."
"...to give them to us if anything ever happened to her."
Ryan's knees gave out.
As officers led him away in handcuffs, television cameras captured every second.
Across the country, millions watched the once-perfect husband lowered into the back of a police vehicle.
But Ryan still had no idea...
May you like
Emily had one final surprise waiting for him.
And it would cost him far more than his freedom.
