CHAPTER 3: THE WOMAN WHO PAID TO KEEP HIM SILENT

By midnight, Adrian Brooks had vanished from his own gala.
No goodbye.
No speech.
No cameras.
Only one black car speeding through the rain with Adrian, the little boy, and the rusty lake house key inside.
The boy sat silently beside him, wrapped in Adrianâs expensive coat.
âWhatâs your name?â Adrian asked softly.
The child stared at the window.
âNoah.â
Adrianâs throat tightened.
Sarah had once told him that if they ever had a son, she wanted to name him Noah.
When the car finally stopped, they were standing before an abandoned lake house hidden deep in the woods. The windows were cracked. The paint had peeled away. But Adrian remembered everything.
This was where he and Sarah had planned their future.
With shaking hands, Adrian unlocked the old front door.
Inside, dust covered the furniture.
Then Noah walked straight to the fireplace.
âMom said it was behind the loose brick.â
Adrian pulled one brick free.
Behind it was a small metal box.
Inside were photos, hospital records, a birth certificate...
And one video tape labeled:
ADRIAN â IF IâM DEAD, WATCH THIS.
Adrian played it.
Sarah appeared on screen, older, exhausted, terrified.
âAdrian... if youâre seeing this, then they found me.â
His eyes filled with tears.
Sarah continued.
âYour accident wasnât an accident. Your wife, Victoria, arranged it. She paid your driver. She paid the doctor. And she paid my family to tell you I was dead.â
Adrian stopped breathing.
Victoria.
The elegant woman who had stood beside him for years.
The woman who kissed his forehead at every charity event.
The woman who controlled his company while he sat in a wheelchair.
Sarah looked into the camera and whispered:
âShe didnât just want your money, Adrian.â
âShe wanted your son gone too.â
Suddenly, headlights flashed through the broken windows.
Three black SUVs surrounded the lake house.
Noah grabbed Adrianâs hand.
âShe found us.â
The front door exploded open.
Men in black stormed inside.
But Adrian didnât look afraid.
For the first time in two years...
He slowly pushed himself up from the wheelchair.
Noah gasped.
The men froze.
Adrian stood on his own two feet.

Then he looked straight into the darkness and said:
âTell Victoria the cripple she created just came back from the dead.â
