CHAPTER 4: THE BILLIONAIRE WHO WAS NEVER PARALYZED

The armed men hesitated.
Every file...
Every medical report...
Every television interview...
Had said Adrian Brooks would never walk again.
Yet there he stood.
One step.
Then another.
The silence inside the abandoned lake house was broken only by the sound of Adrian's shoes hitting the wooden floor.
The leader of the attackers slowly lowered his gun.
"Impossible..."
Adrian smiled coldly.
"No."
"It was necessary."
Before anyone could react, hidden floodlights exploded to life outside the house.
Red and blue lights flashed through the trees.
Dozens of black SUVs surrounded the property.
The attackers turned in panic.
"What is this?"
Doors slammed.
More than fifty federal agents stormed toward the cabin.
"Federal agents! Drop your weapons!"
Within seconds, the gunmen were forced to the ground.
Noah stared at Adrian in disbelief.
"You... you knew they were coming?"
Adrian knelt beside the boy.
"For two years."
Noah blinked.
"What do you mean?"
Adrian looked toward the shattered doorway.
"I was never completely helpless."
"The wheelchair became my disguise."
While Victoria believed she had broken him, Adrian had secretly rebuilt everything.
He sold companies under fake names.
Moved billions into hidden accounts.
Created an independent security network.
And quietly hired former federal investigators to discover who had ordered the crash.
But every trail ended the same way.
Someone inside his own company kept destroying the evidence.
Until tonight.
Until Noah appeared with Sarah's key.
One of the agents rushed over holding a captured assassin's phone.
"Mr. Brooks..."
"You need to hear this."
He pressed play.
Victoria's voice echoed through the speaker.
"If the boy reaches Adrian... kill them both."
"But make it look like an accident."
The entire team fell silent.
Noah's face turned pale.
Adrian slowly closed his eyes.
The woman he had trusted with his life...
Had ordered the murder of his own son.
Just then, another agent sprinted from one of the SUVs.
"Sir!"
"We found something else."
He handed Adrian a classified folder recovered from the attackers.
Across the front, stamped in bright red letters, were the words:
PROJECT PHOENIX
Inside were photographs of dozens of powerful businessmen...
Politicians...
Judges...
Even senators.
Some had red X's across their faces.
Others were marked with a single word:
NEXT.
At the very back of the file was one final photograph.
It showed Adrian...
Standing beside Sarah...
Holding newborn Noah in his arms.
The picture had been taken ten years ago.
But Adrian had never seen it before.
Someone had been watching his family...
Long before the accident.
And written beneath the photograph, in black ink, was a chilling sentence:
"Phase One Complete. Eliminate the father before he remembers everything."
Adrian's expression hardened.
This was never about money.
It was never just Victoria.

Someone far more powerful had been controlling every move from the shadows.
And they had just declared war.
