CHAPTER 1 – The Man Who Walked Away

When Ethan Carter received the phone call that his wife had gone into labor three weeks early, he didn't rush to the hospital.

Instead, he finished his meeting.

His business partners praised his discipline, but none of them knew the truth.

Ethan wasn't sure the baby was his.

For months, anonymous messages had poisoned his mind.

"Your wife isn't as innocent as you think."

"Watch her when you're away."

"The child she's carrying doesn't belong to you."

No proof.

Just whispers.

But whispers are dangerous when they reach a man already drowning in doubt.

By the time Ethan finally arrived at the hospital, nearly twelve hours had passed.

The hallway was silent.

The nurses looked at him with disappointment.

His wife, Emma, lay exhausted in the hospital bed, pale from a difficult delivery.

She smiled weakly when she saw him.

"You came..."

But Ethan didn't hug her.

He didn't kiss her forehead.

He barely looked at her.

Instead, his eyes drifted toward the tiny bundle resting beside her.

Their newborn son.

Emma carefully lifted the baby.

"Do you want to hold him?"

Ethan froze.

His hands trembled.

"What if he's not mine?"

The words escaped before he could stop them.

Emma's smile vanished.

"What... did you just say?"

"I know you've been hiding something."

Her face turned white.

"Ethan... how could you even think that?"

He stepped back.

"I need the truth."

Tears streamed down Emma's face as she cradled their son closer.

"The truth is... I almost died bringing him into this world."

"And the first thing his father says is that he doesn't belong here."

Silence filled the room.

Even the nurse standing near the door lowered her head.

Without another word...

Ethan turned around...

...and walked out.

He never noticed the tiny bracelet around the baby's wrist.

Or the strange symbol engraved on the silver charm attached to it.

A symbol that would destroy everything he believed.
