CHAPTER 3: The Trap He Never Saw Coming

Ryan tried to run.

But the moment he turned toward the glass doors, two federal agents blocked his path.

“Ryan Carter,” one of them said coldly, “you’re under arrest for attempted murder, corporate fraud, and conspiracy.”

Ryan’s face twisted in panic.

“No! She’s lying! That woman is not my wife!”

Evelyn stepped closer.

The entire boardroom went silent.

For the first time, Ryan saw the woman he had pushed from the helicopter was no longer the gentle wife who begged for love.

She was calm.

Powerful.

Untouchable.

“You should have checked the ocean currents,” Evelyn said softly. “My father taught me how to survive long before he taught me how to run a company.”

Ryan’s mistress, Vanessa, suddenly burst into the room, dressed in designer white, expecting to celebrate her new life as a billionaire’s wife.

But when she saw Evelyn alive, her smile vanished.

“No…” Vanessa whispered.

Evelyn turned to her.

“Hello, Vanessa.”

Vanessa backed away.

Ryan screamed, “She planned this! She set me up!”

Evelyn opened her phone and played one final recording.

It was Ryan’s voice.

Clear.

Cruel.

Laughing.

“Once Evelyn is dead, the company is mine. Vanessa and I will sell it before anyone finds out.”

The board members gasped.

Vanessa began crying.

Ryan stared at Evelyn with pure hatred.

“You ruined me.”

Evelyn smiled sadly.

“No, Ryan. You ruined yourself the day you mistook my kindness for weakness.”

As agents dragged him away, Ryan shouted one final threat.

“You’ll never be safe! You don’t know who else wanted you gone!”

That sentence made Evelyn freeze.

Because Ryan was telling the truth.

That night, Samuel brought Evelyn a sealed envelope her father had hidden years before his death.

Inside was a photo.

Evelyn’s father.

Ryan.

Vanessa.

And one more person…

A person Evelyn trusted more than anyone in the world.
