Emma Parker never imagined that fifteen years of marriage could end in less than five minutes.
The rain tapped softly against the kitchen windows as she carefully prepared dinner.
Roasted chicken.
Mashed potatoes.
His favorite meal.
She smiled to herself.
Today was their wedding anniversary.
She had even wrapped a small silver watch she had secretly saved months to buy.
The front door opened.
David stepped inside wearing an expensive suit she had ironed that morning.
But something was different.
He didn't kiss her.
Didn't smile.
Didn't even look around the house.
He simply stood there.
"Emma..."
His voice was strangely calm.
"We need to talk."

Flowers.

The dinner that was slowly growing cold.
David noticed it.

guilt flashed across his face.
Then his phone vibrated.
A message.
Sophia.
He smiled.

"So that's it?"
she asked quietly.
"You leave your wife because someone younger smiled at you?"
David grabbed his suitcase.
"I deserve to be happy."
Emma looked directly into his eyes.
"And I deserved loyalty."
He walked toward the door.
Before leaving, he stopped.
"You'll be okay."
Emma whispered something he almost didn't hear.
"No..."
"I'll become stronger."
He closed the door.

The following months were brutal.
Emma cried herself to sleep.
Neighbors whispered.
Friends disappeared.
Even David's family blamed her.
"If you'd taken better care of yourself..."
his sister once said.
