Chapter 6 - The Confession of Dr. NavarroInside the federal interrogation room at the Guadalajara courthouse, the fluorescent lights hummed with a monotonous drone that felt like a drill boring into the brain.

Dr. Esteban Navarro sat across the metal table, his gold-rimmed glasses resting crookedly on his nose. The arrogant, untouchable medical director was entirely gone, replaced by a sweating, panicked bureaucrat who realized he was taking the fall for a crime he hadn't planned, only profited from.
“I didn't know anything about murder!” Navarro blurted out before the investigator even sat down. “It was all Abigail! She came to me four months ago, crying about how her mother-in-law was unstable, how the family needed financial restructuring to pay for medical care! She offered me a consulting fee—four hundred thousand pesos—to expedite the psychiatric evaluation!”
The door opened, and Samuel walked into the observation-turned-interrogation room. He didn't wear his tactical vest anymore; he wore a crisp white button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms.
He pulled out the metal chair opposite the doctor and sat down slowly, resting his elbows on the table.
Dr. Navarro shrank back against his seat. “Captain Ortega... please. I have a family. I have a medical practice. If you let me cooperate fully, I can give you everything else Abigail hid. The offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands, the secondary safe deposit box key in downtown Guadalajara, the fake medical certifications she used to justify the institutionalization!”
Samuel stared at him in silence for a full ten seconds. The weight of that silence was heavier than any threat.
“Where is the key to the secondary safe deposit box, Doctor?” Samuel asked softly.
Navarro scrambled to reach into his suit jacket pocket, pulling out a small, heavy brass key attached to a leather tag marked ‘Vault 412 - Banco Central de Guadalajara’. He slid it across the table with trembling fingers.
“Inside that vault,” Navarro whispered, “is the original deed to your family estate, signed over under duress, along with copies of your mother’s medical POA, and... and Abigail’s personal journal detailing every step of the asset stripping operation.”
Samuel picked up the key, turning it over in his palm. He looked up at the sweating physician, his expression unreadable.

“You took an oath to protect human life, Doctor,” Samuel said, his voice flat and devoid of mercy. “Instead, you sold a vulnerable, innocent woman to the highest bidder for four hundred thousand pesos. You’ll keep cooperating with the federal prosecutor until every single co-conspirator behind this ring is behind bars. And when the judge hands down your sentence, I hope you remember every second of what you tried to do to my mother.”
Samuel stood up, pocketed the key, and walked out of the room without looking back.
