CHAPTER 2 — "The Woman Who Buried the Truth"

The woman who screamed was Victoria Carter—Ethan’s elegant wife, the queen of every charity event, the woman America called the perfect billionaire’s bride.
But now, she looked like a criminal caught under a spotlight.
Ethan turned slowly.
“Victoria…” he said, his voice shaking. “Why are you afraid of this letter?”
Victoria forced a smile, but her lips trembled.
“Because this boy is lying,” she snapped. “He’s using Emily’s name to humiliate you.”
The boy’s eyes filled with tears.
“My name is Noah,” he said. “And Emily was my mother.”
The room froze.
Ethan stepped back as if someone had struck him.
“No…” he whispered. “Emily never had a child.”
Noah opened the letter himself.
His voice cracked as he read the first line.
“Ethan, if you are reading this, then Victoria succeeded.”
A wave of shock rolled through the ballroom.
Victoria lunged toward the stage, but security blocked her.
Noah kept reading.
“I was not dead. I was pregnant. Your family paid people to hide me, because Victoria wanted your name, your fortune, and your future.”
Ethan’s eyes turned glassy.
Sixteen years of grief.
Sixteen years of believing the woman he loved had died.
And now, all of it was collapsing in front of cameras.
Noah pulled out a second item from his jacket.
A small silver bracelet.
Ethan covered his mouth.
He knew it immediately.
He had given it to Emily the night he proposed.
Victoria screamed, “That proves nothing!”
Then an old man in the back of the room slowly stood up.
He was Ethan’s former driver.
His voice was weak, but every word cut through the room.
“It proves everything,” he said. “I drove Miss Emily away that night. Mrs. Carter paid me to tell Ethan she was dead.”
Victoria’s face lost all color.
Ethan turned to her, broken.
“You watched me mourn her.”
Victoria’s mask finally shattered.
“I saved you!” she screamed. “Emily was poor. I made you powerful!”
Noah looked at Ethan with shaking hope.
“My mother died three weeks ago,” he whispered. “Her last wish was for me to find my father.”
Ethan stared at the boy.
Then he stepped forward, touched Noah’s bruised cheek, and asked the question the whole world was waiting for.
“Who did this to you?”
Noah looked past him.
Straight at Victoria.
“She did.”
At that moment, the charity gala was no longer a celebration.
It was a crime scene.
And when police entered the ballroom minutes later, Victoria tried to run.
But she didn’t get far.
Because the biggest twist was still waiting inside the envelope.
A hidden DNA report.
Noah was Ethan’s son.

But under it was one final line from Emily:
“Victoria has another child too… and Ethan, he is not yours.”
