CHAPTER 3 — "The DNA That Destroyed an Empire"

Police officers surrounded the ballroom before Victoria could reach the exit.

Guests who had arrived expecting champagne and celebration now stood frozen, watching the most powerful family in America collapse in real time.

Every television camera remained live.

Every phone in the room was recording.

Victoria pointed at Noah with desperate fury.

"He's lying! That DNA report is fake!"

Ethan didn't answer.

His eyes were locked on the sealed laboratory envelope Emily had hidden beneath the letter.

With trembling fingers, he opened it.

The report confirmed what everyone feared.

99.9998% probability.

Noah Carter. Biological son of Ethan Carter.

A deafening silence filled the ballroom.

Noah lowered his head.

"I never wanted your money," he whispered.

"I just wanted to know if my father was a good man... because Mom believed you were."

Those words shattered Ethan.

For sixteen years, he had built hospitals, donated billions, and saved strangers around the world.

Yet he had failed to save the two people who mattered most.

He slowly stepped toward Noah.

"I failed you," Ethan said, tears streaming down his face.

"I'm so... so sorry."

For a long moment, neither of them spoke.

Then Ethan wrapped his arms around his son.

The ballroom erupted into emotional applause.

Even reporters lowered their cameras.

But Victoria suddenly burst into laughter.

Not nervous laughter.

Cold.

Cruel.

Almost victorious.

"You think this is over?" she sneered.

"You've only uncovered half the truth."

Everyone turned toward her.

Victoria looked directly at Ethan.

"You should read the second page."

Ethan unfolded another sheet hidden inside the envelope.

His heartbeat stopped.

Emily had written one final confession.

"If Victoria ever loses control... she'll try to protect her real secret."

Ethan looked up.

"What secret?"

Victoria smiled through tears.

"The boy you raised as your heir..."

She paused, enjoying every second.

"...isn't your son."

The room exploded into chaos.

Gasps echoed from every corner.

Reporters shouted questions.

Board members stared in disbelief.

Ethan's adopted heir, Lucas Carter, who had just arrived moments earlier after hearing the commotion, stood frozen near the entrance.

"What... what did you just say?" Lucas asked.

Victoria looked at him with trembling eyes.

"I'm your mother..."

Lucas nodded slowly.

"I know."

"But Ethan..."

She swallowed hard.

"...he isn't your father."

Lucas staggered backward.

"No..."

Victoria laughed bitterly.

"Your real father was Ethan's younger brother."

The entire ballroom gasped.

Ethan felt the world spin around him.

His own brother had died years earlier in what everyone believed was a tragic car accident.

Emily's final sentence suddenly made horrifying sense.

"Trust no one in your family. The accident wasn't an accident."

Before Ethan could speak—

A loud voice echoed from the ballroom entrance.

"She's finally telling the truth."

Everyone turned.

An elderly man in a dark gray suit walked inside, leaning on a cane.

Ethan's face drained of color.

Impossible.

The man had supposedly been dead for nearly twenty years.

The stranger removed his hat, smiled coldly, and said,

May you like

"Hello, Ethan... I think it's time your brother came home."
