Chapter 2 - THE LEGAL WAR COMMENCES

A mother's desperation meets a billionaire's rage as the ultimate betrayal is uncovered."What did you do?"
Ethan’s voice wasn't loud. It was a low, lethal growl that caused the air in the penthouse to turn to ice. He crossed the room in two strides, grabbing Claire by the arms. "Where is my daughter?!"
"Let go of me! You're hurting me!" Claire shrieked, twisting out of his grip. "I didn't do anything! But your mother? Victoria Hale doesn't like loose ends, Ethan. She never has."
The revelation hit him like a physical blow. Victoria.
Without another word, Ethan sprinted out of the penthouse, ignoring Claire’s screams behind him. He threw himself into his car and dialed his head of security, a former black-ops commander named Marcus.
"Marcus, I need a satellite trace on a black SUV leaving Newbury Street twenty minutes ago. Track my mother's private security details. Now!"
Thirty minutes later, Ethan slammed his car to a halt outside the gates of the Hale Manor in Beacon Hill. He didn't wait for the guards to open the massive iron gates; he crashed his Maybach straight through them, the metal screeching and tearing as he roared up the cobblestone driveway.
He burst through the front doors of the mansion like a hurricane.
"Victoria!" he roared.
Sitting calmly by the grand fireplace, sipping tea from an antique porcelain cup, was Victoria Hale. She didn't even flinch at her son's explosive entry.
"Mind your manners, Ethan," Victoria said smoothly. "You look like a madman."
"Where is she?" Ethan demanded, slamming both hands onto the mahogany table in front of her. "Where is my daughter, Lily?"
Victoria set her teacup down with a soft click. "You mean the bastard child of a penniless painter? The girl who would ruin your reputation, tank our stock prices, and destroy your alignment with the Whitman family? I protected you six years ago, Ethan. I paid that girl five million dollars to vanish. She took the money and ran. If she came back, she broke the contract."
"You're lying," a raw voice echoed from the doorway.
Ethan spun around. Grace stood there, drenched in rain, her clothes torn, her face smeared with mud and tears. Behind her was Marcus, Ethan's security chief, holding a trembling Lily wrapped in his jacket.
"Daddy?" Lily whimpered, looking past Grace straight at Ethan.
Hearing the word Daddy from those tiny lips broke something fundamental inside Ethan Hale. He bypassed his mother entirely, dropping to his knees on the Persian rug, and pulled both Grace and Lily into his arms. He didn't care about the mud, the rain, or the scandal.
"I've got you," Ethan choked out, his tears mixing with the rain on Grace's shoulder. "I've got you both. I'm never letting go."
Victoria stood up, her face a mask of aristocratic coldness. "Marcus, remove these trespassers. Ethan, if you don't throw this woman out right now, I will strip you of the CEO title by sunrise. You will have nothing."
Grace pulled back, looking Victoria straight in the eye. "Six years ago, you threatened to ruin my family. You told me Ethan would hate me if I ruined his future. But I didn't take your money, Victoria. I tore up your check. And tonight, your security didn't kidnap my daughter—they tried to stage an accident."

Grace pulled a small, digital voice recorder from her pocket and pressed play.
THE HOOK: Victoria’s voice filled the room from the recorder: “Make it look like a hit-and-run. The child cannot exist. Claire, ensure Ethan stays at the penthouse until it's done.” Ethan slowly turned his head to look at his mother, his eyes completely devoid of humanity.
