Chapter 5 - THE MASTERPIECE OF REVENGE

A secret from the past threatens to destroy the fragile peace before the paint can dry.The shadow of "Project Genesis" hung over the Rhode Island estate like an unspoken curse. Grace became distant, her trust splintering once again. She refused to ask Ethan about it directly, fearing the answer, but she watched his every move with renewed suspicion.
Meanwhile, Ethan spent every waking hour trying to be the father Lily deserved. He taught her how to skip stones on the ocean, bought her every color of professional paint imaginable, and built a massive, sun-drenched art studio in the east wing of the estate just for her and Grace.
One afternoon, Grace entered the new studio to find Ethan looking at a massive, unfinished canvas she had been working on in secret. It was a portrait of Ethan from memory—but his face was split in half, one side full of warmth, the other shrouded in corporate darkness.
"What is Project Genesis, Ethan?" Grace asked suddenly, her voice cutting through the quiet room.
Ethan froze. He turned around slowly, his face paling. "Where did you hear that name?"
"An anonymous caller," Grace said, stepping closer, her eyes flashing with hurt. "They said you traded something terrible to get your CEO seat six years ago. Right around the time I vanished. Tell me the truth, Ethan. Did you trade me for your company?"
Ethan let out a long, ragged breath and covered his face with his hands. When he looked up, his eyes were tortured.
"Six years ago, my mother found out you were pregnant before I did," Ethan confessed, his voice shaking. "She launched Project Genesis—it was a hostile takeover of your father’s small logistics company, structured to bankrupt him overnight. She told me if I didn't sign the merger with the Whitman family and take the CEO seat, she would execute the project and ruin your family completely. I signed the papers to protect your father. I thought if I took control of the company, I could use my power to protect you. But by the time the ink was dry... you were already gone. She lied to both of us, Grace. She used Project Genesis to force my hand, and used my compliance to convince you that I betrayed you."
Grace stared at him, the final pieces of the horrific puzzle falling into place. It hadn't been a betrayal of love; it had been a masterclass in corporate extortion by Victoria Hale, pitting two young lovers against each other in a game of emotional chess.
"She ruined six years of our lives," Grace whispered, her voice trembling with a terrifying blend of grief and rage.
"She's out on bail," Ethan said coldly. "Her lawyers are pulling strings. She thinks she's going to walk away from the conspiracy charges with a slap on the wrist."
Grace looked at her canvas, a brilliant, dangerous spark igniting in her eyes. "No, she isn't. She forgot one thing, Ethan."
"What's that?"

"She forgot that I'm an artist. And an artist knows exactly how to paint a monster for the whole world to see."
THE HOOK: Two weeks later, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts hosted a surprise, high-security exhibition by the reclusive, newly famous Grace Miller. Victoria Hale, attending under heavy security to prove she was still untouched by scandal, walked into the main gallery—only to freeze in absolute horror in front of the center masterpiece.
