Chapter 4 - A Shattered Past and a Hidden Heir

A shot echoed through the mansion, followed by the heavy thud of a body hitting the floor.
Richard collapsed, clutching his shoulder where a sniper bullet from outside had precisely neutralized him. The federal agents immediately tackled him to the ground, disarming him and dragging both him and the hysterical Victoria out of the mansion in chains.
Alejandro didn't even blink. He turned around instantly and ran back up the stairs.
Elena was standing near the door, trembling, holding a heavy metal lamp as a makeshift weapon. When she saw Alejandro unharmed, the lamp slipped from her fingers, clattering onto the carpet.
"They're gone, Elena," Alejandro murmured, pulling her tightly into his chest. "No one will ever hurt you again."
"Leo..." Elena choked out against his chest. "Alejandro, the agency... they have Leo at Saint Jude’s underground clinic! If they realize the plan failed, they’ll—"
"I already sent my elite team," Alejandro interrupted softly, stroking her hair. "Look out the window."
Elena hurried to the balcony window. Down in the courtyard, a black medical helicopter landed on the helipad. The doors slid open, and a top medical team stepped out, carrying a small, pale four-year-old boy wrapped in a warm blanket.
"Mommy!" a small, raspy voice cried out as the medical team rushed into the mansion lobby.
Elena stumbled down the stairs, tears streaming down her face like rain. "Leo! My baby!"
She fell to her knees at the bottom of the stairs, pulling the little boy into her arms, kissing his forehead, his cheeks, his hands. Alejandro walked down slowly, standing over them, his chest tight with an overwhelming rush of paternal love.
The little boy blinked up at Alejandro with dark, piercing eyes—eyes that were an exact replica of Alejandro’s own.

"Are you... the superhero Mommy told me about?" Leo asked innocently, holding his small hand against Alejandro’s suit leg. "The one who was going to save us?"
Alejandro dropped to his knees, swallowing the hard lump in his throat. He wrapped his massive arms around both his wife and his son, burying his face in Elena’s shoulder. "I'm your dad, little man. And I promise you, nobody is ever going to make your mommy scrub another floor as long as I live."
